Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of Grinding Stability of Beam Workpiece
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
In the present study, the authors made a comprehensive investigation on the grinding stability of beam workpiece. The theoretical analysis of the grinding chatter for beam surface was launched based on the behavior of a single abrasive grain, whose cutting thickness is a key factor affecting the grinding stability. The dynamic grinding force model is developed, which is the interaction interface between the grinding wheel and workpiece. The experiments were also performed. The background of the work is beneficial to many engineering areas.
The topic of the work falls within the scope of the target journal. The whole paper is well organized. The logic is clear and the language is smooth. The results sound credible. It can be considered for publication after some careful modifications.
1. In L14, before “Timoshenko beam”, there should be “the”. In many other places, there are similar problems.
2. Please check the sentence in L57. It’s too long. “contribute” should be “contributes”.
3. After each equation there should be “,” or “.” to ensure it is a complete sentence.
4. In L86, “displacement” should be “displacements”. Please check the similar problem in other places.
5. Equations in L117 are wrong.
6. Between the number and its following unit, there should be one blank.
7. In L175, “moments” should be “moment”.
8. For the chatter problem, the authors may have missed the work on the fluid induced instability of pipes. Please see: Zhao et al., Stability and local bifurcation of parameter-excited vibration of pipes conveying pulsating fluid under thermal loading. Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2015.
9. In Table 2, the unit of I is wrong.
10. The symbol Pi in L191 should not be italic.
11. In L209, “Where” should be “, where”.
12. Please check the captions in Fig. 7.
13. What is the definition of the natural frequency? For a continuum, there are numerous natural frequencies.
14. Please check the sentence in L236.
15. In L280, “evolution” should be “evolve”.
16. What is the unit of the amplitude in Fig. 16?
See above.
