Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled "Frost formation in frozen meat packaged with two plastic films (LDPE and PVC)" obtained a very interesting results for the effect of LDPE and PVC on the forst.

Some suggestions to improve the interesting manuscript:

1.      Line 148 what is PAI?

2.      Line 189, I suggest write permeance instead to only P in the sub-subtitle.

3.      Line 241-278, I suggest to add the FTIR results of both LDPE and PVC before any thermal treatments in order to understand the effect of freezing and thawing on the material properties.

4.      Add more " Discussion" for Fig 5, identify the additive molecules that are presented in the Fig 5, B where it is at which wavenumber. And support your obtained results with the previous published paper.

5.      Table 3 it not clear what are each rows for both LDPE and PVC?

6.      Table 4 what is the reference value mean? From where?

7.      References 5 and 6 the paper title is in capital letter. And some latin  names is not Italic Ref 18 and 25.

Please see the attachment.

Q: Line 148 what is PAI?

A: We appreciate the observation. The correction was made in the manuscript.

Q: Line 189, I suggest write permeance instead to only P in the sub-subtitle.

A: We appreciate the observation. The correction was made in the manuscript.

Q: Line 241-278, I suggest to add the FTIR results of both LDPE and PVC before any thermal treatments in order to understand the effect of freezing and thawing on the material properties.

A: We appreciate the comment, that section was modified by adding the FTIR spectra of the samples before freezing-thawing and a brief description of what was found in the films.

Q: Add more " Discussion" for Fig 5, identify the additive molecules that are presented in the Fig 5, B where it is at which wavenumber. And support your obtained results with the previous published paper.

A: We appreciate the observation, and the discussion of Figure 5 has been expanded.

Q: Table 3 it not clear what are each rows for both LDPE and PVC?

A: We appreciate the observation, however, by the author guidelines of the journal, the format of the tables is defined, we have been careful to delimit the three corresponding rows for each packaging material and thus avoid confusion.

Q: Table 4 what is the reference value mean? From where?

A: We appreciate the observation, however, there is no average value in the literature, since the reference [39] that is cited in the manuscript indicates that the glass transition of LDPE can be found in an interval ranging from -90 to -25 °C, so we consider that modifying what other authors mention would be a mistake.

Q: References 5 and 6 the paper title is in capital letter. And some latin  names is not Italic Ref 18 and 25.

A: We appreciate the observation. Formatting errors in the references section have been carefully checked and corrected.

Reviewer 2 Report

This study aims were to evaluate the effect of two plastic films on the formation of surface frost in frozen meat. The manuscript is recommended to be accepted after minor editing as below:

Line 114: Mitutoyo H-2780 digital micrometer. Please provide manufacturer details.

Line 119: ASTM E-95 gravimetric technique method. Include citation.

Line 141-143: Rephrase.

Line 146: contrast effect with the; V3 at 12.5

Line 149: Include Metrix Laboratory city and country details.

Line 169: temperature. To identify

Line 192: Rephrase “there is a slower increase in intensity in diffusion 192 than that of LDPE at three weeks.” Because a slower increase was observed for PVC film from three to four weeks.

Line 193-194: Provide citation to support your argument.

Line 194-195: Provide citation to support your argument.

Line 196-198: Rephrase for clarity: causing the relative humidity to be higher now inside the device, which can be observed from the second to the fourth weeks and in the fifth week of the permeance study in Figure 1.

Line 209: What is free volume here means?

Line 214: organization. The thickness

Line 217: vapor increases

Line 222-227: Rephrase. The sentence is too long.

Line 231: Figure 2 shows the frost formed on LDPE and PVC film at which storage time? Please include in the figure legend too.

Line 247-248: The sentence is too long. “to symmetric deformation of methyl radical (-CH3), respectively [26]. Continue with “Meanwhile, at 729 and 719… [26].

Line 266-267: Label those mentioned wavelengths in Figure 3 since they are the main characteristics of PVC molecule.

Line 249-253: Provide citation for the interpretation.

Line 270-273: Provide citation for the interpretation.

Line 274: DOP and DEHP were also detected at which wavelength?

Line 293-295: Repeatable sentence with line 281-284.

Please relate the most used phthalate in food packaging as you mentioned in Line 298 and 303 with the peaks you found in Figure 5 (a).

Line 310: What are the “some additive molecules” that were recorded?

Line 328: “were” observed at

Table 3: Means with different letter in the same column are statistically different. Please check if you put the correct letters for the significant different. For example, LDPE Start Transition, there is no “c” in the same column.

Table 4: Please check your statistics. “a” should be given to the largest value.

Line 382-385: Repetitive sentence from the previous paragraph.

Line 419: permissible (small P)

I would suggest English editing. Many sentences are too long to comprehend.
