The Effect of Bounded Rationality on Human Cooperation with Voluntary Participation
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript explores very interesting issue of human cooperation. The manuscript is well-written and also provides some results based on the Monte Carlo simulations. However, I find the manuscript title a little misleading - I propose to change it in order to include the issue of human cooperation.
I have a question regarding the equation (1). In the paragraph before this equation, the Authors describe the number of cooperators, defectors and loners. However, the equation (1) does not contain nL, however it is described. Is it correct? Please explain.
I suggest to add some discussion after the results. Now it is virtually nonexistent.
Also, please specify the directions for future research.
Author Response
Thank you for your comments concerning our manuscript. Those comments are all valuable and very helpful for revising and improving our paper, as well as the important guiding significance to our research. The main modifications of the manuscript and the responds to the comments are as follows.
Point 1: I find the manuscript title a little misleading - I propose to change it in order to include the issue of human cooperation.
Response 1: The manuscript title is indeed one-sided and it has been modified to "The effect of bounded rationality on human cooperation with voluntary participation".
Point 2: I have a question regarding the equation (1). In the paragraph before this equation, the Authors describe the number of cooperators, defectors and loners. However, the equation (1) does not contain nL, however it is described. Is it correct? Please explain.
I suggest to add some discussion after the results. Now it is virtually nonexistent.
Response 2: Equation (1) denotes the payoff for a cooperator, a defector and a loner in a single game, respectively. According to the relationship: G=nC+nD+nL, nL is not necessary for equation (1) and it has been replaced by G-nC-nD in the revised manuscript. But it doesn't affect the presentation of payoffs. Hence, the form of equation (1) is still correct.
According to equation (1), the number of strategies in a single game determines the corresponding payoffs for individuals from microscopic level. Then the payoffs affect individuals' decisions based on our micro-dynamic. This has been showed in Figure 8 and further discussed subsequently.
Point 3: Also, please specify the directions for future research.
Response 3:
There are two main directions for future research:
1. The asymmetric micro-dynamic we construct can be used to study the evolution of cooperation with voluntary participation for different types of networks.
2. Corresponding experiments are necessary to conduct for further improvement of the micro-dynamic.
Thanks again for the comments. According to the comments, we have tried our best to improve the structure and writing of the manuscript. Note that all the modifications have no effects on the conclusions. The specific changes are marked up in the revised manuscript.
Reviewer 2 Report
The presentation reflects the present state of knowledge. The paper is very well structured. The Introduction section is good, in this section the authors presents clearly the objectives and the main contributions of the study. The authors had provided sufficient background and include relevant references. The method is adequately described. The results are clearly presented. The conclusions are supported by the results.
