Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This research is focused on studying the impact of an inquiry-based science course on pre-service early childhood student teachers’ intention to utilize inquiry-based learning approaches. The Research Questions were clearly established, and the methodology is well planned. The results showed several independent variables that contribute to distinct approaches to their future teaching. As an interesting implication, it is considered that creating explicit content probably involves mastering the creation of implicit elements.

Finally, for all the above the topic is considered relevant for science learning and the publication is recommended.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

I am not qualified to assess the quality of English in this paper. However, It is must be checked spelling of “imporve” (p.3). Moreover, although it can be assumed, it would be advisable to indicate before in the text the meaning of “A & F”.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Generally, well written and an interesting focus in the science area of ECE. Would be useful to know what age the children would be when the student teachers are using this model.

See feedback in the document but overall might need a bit more literature in the front end to support the focus and then in the discussion section to further support your findings. Are there plans to follow up on this and see if the student teachers do in fact implement this or to connect with a Prac unit and see if the students feel the same after they have had an opportunity to actually try the CSV in practice? The ‘what next’ is missing a bit in this manuscript.

Author Response

Dear reviewer,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and valuable comments on our manuscript. We hereafter give answer to each of your comment / question. In addition, the attached revised manuscript includes the revisions (in red color letters) that were made following the reviewer’s general comments as well as his more specific comments in the manuscript.

Reviewer’s comment / question: Would be useful to know what age the children would be when the student teachers are using this model.

Authors’ Answer: The children could be in the age range of 5-8 years old. This can be concluded by the fact that the student teachers are going to teach in early childhood education classes.

Reviewer’s comment / question: See feedback in the document but overall might need a bit more literature in the front end to support the focus and then in the discussion section to further support your findings.

Authors’ Answer: The reviewer can see in the attached revised manuscript that the authors added three new references, also adding some new thoughts following the reviewer’s comments in the manuscript.

Reviewer’s comment / question: The ‘what next’ is missing a bit in this manuscript.

Authors’ Answer: According to this comment we added a small paragraph for further research in the end of the last section of the manuscript.

Sincerely,

The authors
