Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I think that there is no evidence gathered on the use and helpfulness of herbal products for the prevention of dental caries and their quality, and therefore this review is interesting and relevant to the broader research community - herbal product researchers, chemist, but also to clinicians (dentists) who can add more to their everyday practice. I found it novel as well since it is comprehensive and gives directions where the line of research should go, what is not covered, where are main flaws of the research conducted so far. On the other hand it is nicely presented which herbal products are promising for caries prevention; and on the other hand main reasons for caries are given. All information given in the present paper are up-to-date and critical discussed, supported with adequate references and knowledge beyond. Conclusions are sound and supportive, with a direction where should research go in future, what are main gaps of a current knowledge in the field. The topic as such is not already published elsewhere, according to my best knowledge, there is no review similar already.
Given all listed above, I find the paper suitable to be published in Biomolecules, and support it.

Author Response

We would like to thank the reviewer for his/her efforts in reading our manuscript and for the positive appreciation. Considering the time necessary for such work, as well as its unpaid (and mostly unrewarded) nature, we are truly grateful.

Reviewer 2 Report

the review manuscript entitled "Clinical trials with herbal products for the prevention of dental caries and their quality: a scoping study " by Ancuceanu represent  herbal products for anti-caries.

The manuscript is well written and is acceptable after minor revision.

In the introduction, more examples on other non-herbal compounds should be addressed, recommended litratures:

Antibacterial quaternary ammonium compounds in dental materials: A systematic review 2018.

Polymeric and inorganic nanoscopical antimicrobial fillers in dentistry 2019.

Photocurable, antimicrobial quaternary ammonium–modified nanosilica 2015.

Quaternary ammonium-based biomedical materials: State-of-the-art, toxicological aspects and antimicrobial resistance 2017

Synthesis and characterization of photo-curable bis-quaternary ammonium dimethacrylate with antimicrobial activity for dental restoration materials 2016.

Author Response

We would like to thank the reviewer for his/her efforts in reading our manuscript and the positive appreciation of it. Considering the time necessary for such work, as well as its unpaid (and mostly unrewarded) nature, we are truly grateful. We also appreciate the suggestion to improve the manuscript by including more examples on other non-herbal compounds. In this sense, we have added a sentence mentioning this kind of compounds with the main examples suggested by the reviewer, including all references suggested by the reviewer. Thank you again for your kind assessment.
