Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The review is devoted to a very interesting topic, namely the use of titanium alloys for the petroleum industry. I have several comments for the authors, which I hope can improve this paper.

1. I recommend considering in more detail the issue of the chemical composition of titanium alloys. What chemical elements are added to titanium and how they affect the microstructure and properties of titanium alloys. This can be devoted to a section.

2. The authors mention the chemical properties of titanium alloys in lines 176-193. I recommend separately considering the issue of the chemical properties of titanium alloys. In this review, this information is very important.

3. The authors provided all the figures at the end of the review. This complicates the study of the review. Place the figures as you refer to them in the text.

4. It would be interesting and useful for readers to learn from this review the technology of manufacturing titanium pipes. Therefore, I recommend adding information to the review on the production and processing of titanium pipes, namely on the modes of rolling, extrusion and their heat treatment.

5. For the review, the number of pages and references can be increased. By adding the information I recommend, the authors will be able to increase the size of the article and the number of references.

6. I recommend not to consider the LMD process in this review (lines 482-520). These technologies will most likely not be used for the production of pipes due to their complexity and high cost. There are a lot of studies on additive technologies of titanium alloys and a large number of reviews on them.

  1. I recommend considering in more detail the issue of the chemical composition of titanium alloys. What chemical elements are added to titanium and how they affect the microstructure and properties of titanium alloys. This can be devoted to a section.

We have added a separate section for explanation.

  1. The authors mention the chemical properties of titanium alloys in lines 176-193. I recommend separately considering the issue of the chemical properties of titanium alloys. In this review, this information is very important.

We have separately discussed the chemical properties.

  1. The authors provided all the figures at the end of the review. This complicates the study of the review. Place the figures as you refer to them in the text.

Placing the figures at the end of the manuscript is a requirement for the journal template.

  1. It would be interesting and useful for readers to learn from this review the technology of manufacturing titanium pipes. Therefore, I recommend adding information to the review on the production and processing of titanium pipes, namely on the modes of rolling, extrusion and their heat treatment.

We have added a section specifically explaining the processing method of titanium alloys.

  1. For the review, the number of pages and references can be increased. By adding the information I recommend, the authors will be able to increase the size of the article and the number of references.

We have added relevant content based on your suggestion.

6. I recommend not to consider the LMD process in this review (lines 482-520). These technologies will most likely not be used for the production of pipes due to their complexity and high cost. There are a lot of studies on additive technologies of titanium alloys and a large number of reviews on them.

There is still relevant research on the application of LMD process in pipeline production, and this manuscript also summarizes the application of additive manufacturing in titanium alloy processing.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article shows that the authors have done a substantial bibliographic work, but unfortunately, as presented in the article, it is very confusing. A proper paragraph on the exposure conditions of titanium is missing, the article needs a cleaner structure, and many arguments lack references. The figures are poorly adapted and inadequately described. Summary tables are missing. The conclusion needs to be redone. The English needs to be reworked

For all these reasons, I am assigning the article major revisions. However, a significant part of the work has been done. Now it is necessary to take a step back to present it in a clearer and more organized manner. It seems that you have a lot of real-world experience beyond laboratory studies, which is a real asset that researchers are looking for—highlight it.

Tables help to synthesize and facilitate reading.

 Good luck with the revisions.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The English and the structure of some sentences are too long and need to be reworked. Be careful with capital letters in the middle of sentences.
