Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript "Effect of chitosan composite coatings with salicylic acid and titanium dioxide nanoparticles on the storage quality of blackcurrant berries" is very well written and clearly written. The methodology is correct and the distribution of the results is correct.

Detailed comments:

Chapter 2.4 - Please explain the abbreviations before introducing them (TSA, TA, VC). With TSS and Ta determined, it is worth determining and comparing the maturity index (MI) on the basis of e.g. doi: 10.1111 / ijfs.14753 and https://doi.org/10.1007/s11947-020-02487-w

line 166 - please expand MDA abbreviations

line 176 - please expand PPO abbreviations

line 188 - expand abbreviations please The results do not contain a statistical analysis (there are only deviations, and it is worth expanding this). There should be more detailed results in the Conclusion section.

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript “Effect of chitosan composite coatings with salicylic acid and titanium dioxide nanoparticles on the storage quality of blackcurrant berries” Investigates the effect of several coatings formulation on the postharvest quality of blackcurrant fruit during storage at 4°C.

Recently some articles have been written about similar subjects:

Khojah, E.; Sami, R.; Helal, M.; Elhakem, A.; Benajiba, N.; Alharbi, M.; Alkaltham, M.S. Effect of Coatings Using Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles and Chitosan Films on Oxidation during Storage on White Button Mushroom. Crystals 2021, 11, 603. https://doi.org/10.3390/cryst11060603

So, the topic is not new but, the article, contributes to positive and interesting new data of the topic in question and the introduction summarizes the previous works. Concerning the methodologies used, I think they were appropriated, and the results obtained are interesting. Conclusions are supported by the results.

Small appointment:

Line 142 – chitosan + salicylic

So, i think the article may be published after a minor revision

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear authors,

The manuscript presents chitosan-based edible coating, as well as a second chitosan-based edible coating containing salicylic acid, nanosized titanium dioxide particles and combination of chitosan, salicylic acid and nanosized titanium dioxide particles. The evaluation of the effect on postharvest quality of blackcurrant fruit during storage has been evaluated and presented. The topic is interesting and well presented. Some corrections should be made.

Line 106-107: add the specification for a sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution and other materials, solutions used presented in lines 109-113.

Line 115: Correct space between the numbers of the chapter.

Line 117-119: Did you also use stirring when preparing the chitosan solution?

Line 123: What was the stirring speed at the preparation of CTS+SA solution?

Line 87-126: The reference 43 and 44 are missing in the text.

Line 143: correct Kg to kg.

Line 148: How long were the samples stored at 4°C and 75% RH?

Lines 155-217: All abbreviations such as TSS, TA etc. should be fully written, when they first appear in the text.

Line 323: there should be the dot erased after the word Content (3.3 MDA Content)
