Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The present manuscript presents an interesting application of a fully non-linear mild-slope equation recently derived by Xu et al., 2024. The validation of the numerical model is sound and the several conducted tests to assess the risk of rip current formation around a system of submerged detached breakwaters lead to a very interesting research article. The manuscript is recommended for publication, if the authors address the following points that are provided in the attachment.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

It is advised to review the whole manuscript carefully to correct some typos and uncommon expressions in English. Perhaps a native English speaker could be of assistance, even though the authors have severak high-quality publications in English themselves. Some language editing comments are listed below:

Page 2, L46: “more attentions have been paid” should be preferably “more attention has been paid/given”.

Page 2, L78: “Basing on this..” should be “Based on this”.

Page 3, L105: “The existing literatures” should be preferably “the existing literature”

Page 15, L497: “breakwater height HB” should be “Breakwater crest height HB

Page 16, L539: “as the main driven force” should be something like “as the main driving factor”

Page 16, L546: “the better the wave energy dissipation” should be “the higher the wave energy dissipation”

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

A very good article on a relevant topic. there are several comments to improve the article:

1. at the beginning of the introduction, it is necessary to emphasize the importance of studying rip currents, their impact on human safety, their impact on sediment transport

2. "wave number which can be calculated from the linear dispersion relationw2 = gk kh tanh" - Please add to the text te model limitation like a "Shallow water which depends from the ratio L/H>1/2" ?

3. Fig1a - please show the land/coast on this figure. The cross hatching fos Sponge Layer looks strange, since this is usually how the coast is designated. It's better to change.

4. "a rip channel is cut at 212 the center of the breakwaters, and the width of the gap is set as Gb=32 m" - please add the justification of the choice of Gb

5. Please add the definition of Hi incident wave height or  significant incident wave height.

6. "the waves with normal incidence and significant incident wave height 248 of Hi=0.6 m and period T=6.0 s" I think this conditions is normal only for the local point from [14]. In shallow water as i know it is around T=4.5 for Hs=1 m. And for the "storm wave conditions" it is some questions about the T=12 seconds. Please add several more links to the literature about the normal conditions.

7. Figure 2 - It is a bad visualisation of MSBWs. Please use bold line and not dashed.

8.Please add the explanation of low water Level -0.08 m near the right MSBW. It looks strange.

9. A section about the wind wave spectrum should be added to the discussion. What could be the results if there is a spectrum instead of a sine wave? and about the influence of Infragravity Waves, as it is said in many articles, they cause rip currents in the absence of breakwaters.
