Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1. Why were only tussah cocoons at these two moisture contents selected for testing? Is it possible to select tuaash cocoons with various moisture contents for testing and to compare the effect of moisture content on the mechanical properties of the cocoons?

2. Why are only the first few stages of buckling deformation of spherical shells during the compression of tussah cocoons? Is it possible to continue to compress the tussah cocoons to observe the changes in buckling throughout the compression process?

3. When calculating the gap between the cocoon shell and the pupa, the thickness of the cocoon shell should be subtracted. It is suggested that the gap calculation formula be added to 2.2.1, which makes the expression more intuitive.

4. Is there contact between the length and diameter of the tussah cocoon in Tables 3 and 4?  Is the diameter of the short-length tussah cocoon small? Are tussah cocoons small in diameter when they are small in length? If there are contacts, is it possible to combine Tables 3 and 4?

5. In Fig. 8(c), rupture point 1 and rupture point 2 are pointing to the wrong location and should be the highest point of the mutation.

6. Is the right pupa in Fig. 11(b) ruptured? Does the diagram simply illustrate the location of the rupture point? A serial number can be added, which illustrates the right pupa state.

7. The conclusion should add what recommendations the research results have for the tussah cocoon for leaf-stripping machine development and what issues should be noted.

The article is well done. It brings important new information on the collection and analysis of force data needed to remove tussah cocoon from oak leaves. As the authors of the work have shown, this data will allow the design of a machine that performs this activity and reduce the amount of manual labor. I believe that the work can be published in its present form.
