Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Editor,

I have read with great interest the manuscript submitted by Mota-Romero et al., entitled: "Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the perceived quality of  palliative care in nursing homes". I believe the study is very interesting and touches one of those topic that most of the population did not perceived as important during the COVID-19 pandemic. However there are some issues that need to be addressed before further processing:

Statistical Analysis: please state p-value significance and two vs. single tailed.

Lines 284-289: I think it would be interesting to check if there is any study on how this kind of telephone comunications affected healthcare workers in hospital setting treating COVID-19 patients.

1º Experimental mortality should have been reported in both groups. That is, what proportion of subjects, both in 2018 and 2022, have not participated and their reasons. As well as an explanation of why 80% of the participants in 2022 did not participate in 2018.

2º The measurement instrument has not been validated, nor are data on the basic psychometric properties (for example, reliability) of the instrument shown. Likewise, the analysis and purification of the items is not described.

3º the sample is small, if we take into consideration that it includes several professional categories. For this reason, only the nursing category is properly represented. This has forced a comparison between the different categories by bringing together the participants of the 2018 and 2022 groups, which is not methodologically correct, especially if what we want is to know the effect of the covid pandemic on the perception of the care provided. Let us bear in mind that these data have the bias that 20% of the participants repeat their assessment, which reduces the homogeneity of the sample.

Dear authors,

First of all, congratulate you for your research. It has original and interesting for readers, and allows the reader to understand how palliative care and nursing homes were affected during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

The paper is well written and has scientific soundness and quality of presentation. Nevertheless, I would like that you explain the implications that your research might have in the future for nursing homes, primary care and palliative care. I suggest you might do so in the conclusion.

Thank you.

the answer is not convincing, I think should be added something like this: this is an exploratory study for which there is no specific measurement bibliography, so that even with an instrument that has not been validated, the data collected can serve as a basis for future research.
