Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Capacitive Angle sensors are of interest in various monitoring and control applications such as positioning and mechanical engineering, also widely used in the automotive industry, aerospace, and machine manufacturing.

This paper is a useful and essential contribution to this need. In this work, a method of simulating a capacitive sensor by COMSOL Multiphysics is presented. The results of the new proposed approach are in good agreement with the theory.

The manuscript is well-written and organized, and some specific conclusions were obtained. I recommend it for publication.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper is very interesting and fulfills the proposal to reduce simulation errors, using COMSOL Multiphysics software, by improving the design of capacitive sensors with petal-sensitive structure. An angle between the partition domain was introduced.

I recommend the manuscript undergo a minor revision to address my comments below before resubmission to this journal:

1. English language and style: Moderate English changes required.

2. The only time “CAXA software” was cited was in the abstract. It would be good to expose along the text in which step it was used.

3. The paragraphs in the Introduction are very long. It would be interesting to separate them.

4. The variables in the equations are not identified, nor are the limits of the integrals.

5. In line 104, "and subtracting according to the (7)", there is no equation 7.

6. The "Results and Discussion" section has a slightly confusing start. I think that the evaluation method can be better explained.

7. Figure 3 has the name Figure 4 in the caption.

8. In lines 143-144, “when the spacing reached 0.08°, the error began to approach the constant of 0.004pF”. I don't know if this information is correct according to the graph. It's good to identify with some marker.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,

Thank you for the opportunity to review your research. I think your manuscript has very superficial information. Important details were lost - input characteristics for the model in COMSOL, description of the choice for sensor geometry, causes of errors (substantiation of physical models). Please answer in more detail. The most important points are noted in the attached file "applsci-2176032-peer-review-v1 (Review)".

Best whishes,

Reviewer
