Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Authors should mention why they chose YOLO as their deep learning model out of other models.

The references 15 and 16 are not very relevant to this study. Authors could have cited other papers to define AUC.

Authors should use subscripts and same letter case when using the terms in the text after and before equations such as Br, Bp ..

Authors should discuss their strategy in hyper parameter tuning. Also how did they make sure their model is well fitted (not over fitted or under fitted).

Some paragraphs are really short consisting of a sentence or two (page 3 for example). I suggest rewriting them so a paragraph can have at least 3 sentences.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

By on line submission our research article manuscript to Applied Sciences, our manuscript entitled, “Development of an automated body temperature detection platform for face recognition in cattle with YOLO V3-tiny deep learning and infrared thermal imaging”, for review. All the authors participating in the design, execution, and analysis of the paper and have approved the final version. This work has not been published in other journals or submitted to other periodicals for review. Hope you will find it acceptable for publication.

We deeply appreciate your consideration of our manuscript, and we look forward to receiving comments from you.

Sincerely yours,

Reviewer 2 Report

  1. The relevance of the study should be improved. Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Introduction should be reversed. Also, the paragraph (lines 206-209) can be attributed to the Introduction.
  2. In addition to the description of the image capture system (lines 94-95), you can present a photo of it in Fig. 1.
  3. What is the spectral range of thermal imaging images? Is spectrum optimization possible?
  4. The paragraph (lines 206-209) can be moved to the Introduction.
  5. Lines 231-235 duplicate the information in lines 50-56.
  6. The phrase in the Conclusions " This system provides a rapid and convenient measurement solution for ranch managers." needs a more serious justification and continuation/specification.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors addressed most of the comments. However, for some comments (on overfitting), they just responded in the rebuttal letter but changes were not made in the manuscript. Please address these comments in the manuscript.
