Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript entitled Numerical investigation of air entrapment dynamic for high-speed thermal spraying is well written and organized, the characterization are well conducted and described. The figures can be improved though.

The air entrapment of a micron-sized molten nickel droplet impacting on a stainless-steel study established the reason for splatting of air entrapment near the edge, which presents a good model for droplets impacts on impermeable surface.

This manuscript is recommended for publication after minor revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors presented a numerical simulation on the air entrapment dynamics for high-speed thermal spraying. The paper is generally well prepared and can be accepted after minor revision.

Some quantitative results are to be added to the abstract.

The introduction is relatively short and should be extended.

The novelty of the work is to be clearly stated.

Most of the figures have low resolutions.

In the sub-title ‘’numerical model’’ the authors presented only the mathematical formulation. The numerical method is to be detailed.

What is the used numerical method?

How the governing equation are discretised?

What is convergence criterion?

A figure presenting the used mesh is to be presented.

A grid sensitivity test is to be performed.

A qualitative validation/verification is to be performed (2D profiles).

Have considered the thermophysical properties as temperature independent ? is it realistic?
