1 | Taste-based discrimination is essentially prejudice, where, for example, a male academic may be hired over a better qualified female candidate. Statistical discrimination is a theorized behavior (i.e., “male academics may, on average, have higher productivity”) rather than a blanket dislike for a particular gender. |
2 | As a sensitivity test, we also run model 5 separately for each rank category (Full Prof, Associate Prof, Assistant Prof, and Lect/Other) and find a positive and significant coefficient on Female for all ranks, except Associate Prof. |
