Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

A very well-researched article about the Prague writer Hermann Grab, who continues to receive far too little recognition. The various references to Adorno and other musicians of the time are also mentioned, but Grab's references to Richard Strauss and Schönberg should also be included in the presentation.

Author Response

Comment 1: Grab's references to Richard Strauss and Schönberg should also be included in the presentation.

Response 1: Thank you for pointing this out. Although I mention Schoenberg four times (Pages 2, 4, 12) and Richard Strauss as well once as an important mentor for Grab, there could be a bit more elaboration on both of the figures. I have a book coming out on Hermann Grab, that does exactly that, but in this text I had to limit myself due to the specifications of the special issue.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is a very good article about  a relatively unknown German author. The article is of a high quality and I recommend it for publication. I have only a few minor comments for consideration both by the editors and the author. See the enclosed review file.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

There are occasional problems, some of them are listed above in the Culik_review file. Please have the English proofread properly, ON PAPER, by a native speaker.

Author Response

Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions.  I have gone back through and have also asked a native speaker to read it and have responded to those comments as well.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Excellent, thoroughly researched and wonderfully written paper on Hermann Grab, a lesser known German-language writer and musician from Prague. The paper represents a major contribution to the field.

I unreservedly recommend it for publication.

Author Response

Thank you.
