Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors presented a very well-written manuscript. They have dealt with an interesting research subject which they approached with well-designed experiments, arriving at reliable results that may be of practical application.

They could have enriched the results with more agronomic characteristics of the lettuce crop under study, but if production is considered the main economic motivation, the work meets the minimum requirements.

All in all it was a pleasure to review such a well prepared manuscript.

I have two observations that I believe will improve towards a more balanced presentation of the proposed method.

a) I suggest replacing the reference to a specific area with a more general one (line 108-109).

b) I propose to add to both the introduction and the general discussion some references to the disadvantages and problems in the application of the bioponics method (e.g. great variability in the composition of manure compared to inorganic fertilizers, need for continuous analyzes and corrections in the hydrofertilization system).

The na has novel data and observation and warranties publication. However, it needs substantial improvement. The content could be shortened significantly by reducing monotonous repetitions and unnecessary comments not essential to central focus of the story of the manuscript. Reduce introduction, remove unnecessary repetitions of the results while discussions. Indicate most significant results, no need to explain every single aspect of the data generated, this diluted reader’s attention. English needs editing and polishing by native speakers. Unnecessary and unwanted detailing to be reduced and edited appropriately. Please reduce or remove or edit over abuse of long sentences making readers struggle to follow the content in the results avd discussion section.
