Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper assessed the performance of different climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices. Short paper, a little description, and needing major proofreading, but with major revisions, a good case study with useful results.

The general comments are as follows:

  1. Please orient experiment site within the country of Uganda.
  2. L113,Clarify the experiment. Please provide a plot map.
  3. L150, Soil moisture content (cm), cm? is that m3m-3?
  4. Equation (3) is not correct to be used to estimate the crop evapotranspiration. ET= infiltration – Δ??? , not P. The maize root can be up to 1m. You only measure the soli depth of 40cm. Besides, although the depth to the groundwater table was deep, the infiltration will go down to 1m.
  5. In discussion, you talked the Effects of CSA treatments on soil moisture content. The title is  Effect of Mulching and Permanent Planting Basin Dimensions on Maize (Zea mays L.) Production. You should discuss the effect on the growth, yield.
