Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The Communication "Evaluation on yield and adaptability of mung bean cultivar "Zhonglv 5" presents the development of the mung bean "Zhonglv 5" cultivar that was released by the Chinese National Organizations in 2004 (18 years ago!!).

The full experimental details are not provided and also, the full datasets are not available. The work experiments (namely, point 3: Basic agronomic characters of Zhonglv 5; point 4: Assessment of resistance to diseases and tolerant to drought) are missing and relevant articles on these subjects as e.g. Wang et al. 2021. Czech Journal of Food Sciences 39, 469-478 are not cited.

The references cited in point 6 are written in Chinese!

In addition, the present Communication has no originality neither novelty. No robust data are presented to draw the conclusions.

The work did not provide an advance towards the current knowledge.

The authors improved the full-text language.

Yes,it is really a long time since zhonglv 5 is released, however, considering the diverse eco environments of mungbean cultivation in China, the application of new cultivars in production need a long periods and in fact, the most popular use for production and breeding parents of zhonglv 5 is around the year of 2010. The most important is that this cultivar has the widest adaptability for different environments.

Thank you for the suggestion. But the authors had thought it is not a research article but a communication, so we don’t need to list the detailed data. For the point 6, we cited the examples that how zhonglv 5 are still used in different cultivation system, unfortunately, we found no English references for this part. So maybe the main purpose of the article is

  1. In addition, the present Communication has no originality neither novelty. No robust data are presented to draw the conclusions.

For those major crops, maybe a cultivar could be used out of country, but you know, mungbean, as a minor crop, the breeding is much lag and the introduction of new cultivars among countries are relatively rare. Notably, mungbean a short light species, thus the wide adaptability of zhonglv 5, in our views,  is a big success in mung bean breeding, and we hope it can be introduced to other mungbean production countries through the introduction in the article.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript presents the progress of breeding and evaluating a new cultivar of mung bean, but the quality of the data presentation is very low, thus decreasing the scientific soundness. The manuscript has many flaws, with the most important being the difficulty of reading because of not using correctly the English language. Extensive editing of English grammar and syntax are required.

Thanks  for the suggestion. We improved the full –text language. and  the detailed data is processing, but  would you please tell us what do you mean the “quality of the data presentation”, and we need time to reorganize all the data

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The revised version of the manuscript "Evaluation of the production potential of mung bean cultivar " Zhonglv 5" from Wang et al. has improved a lot. So, I consider that now the manuscript is acceptable to be published.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript has been imroved significantly. English syntax has been imroved across all sections of the manuscript and now is easily readable and the results are well represented.

Congratulations to all authors for their effort in imroving the manuscript and their cooperation.
