Application of Light-Emitting Diodes with Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria and Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungi for Tomato Seedling Production
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript discussed the Application of Light-Emitting Diodes with Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria and Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungi for Tomato Seedling Production. Technical content, flow, and comparison of the work with other relevant works are all appropriately provided in the manuscript. Hence, I see the manuscript qualified for being accepted in Agronomy MDPI . However, before acceptance, the manuscript needs some improvements:
1) The manuscript needs to be fully checked and improved on English writing. As an example, in lines 41-43, there are three consecutive sentences, which are started with the same wording.
2) While the paper talks continuously about the effect of light on plant growth and development, there was not any mention to lasers as one potential competitor of LEDS. I suggest the authors mention that in either introduction or discussion and then compare the LED with Laser biostimulation. Or maybe include it as a topic for future research. One very good and recent review reference to include for Laser biostimulation is

Agronomy, Application of LEDs, Oct. 2022
1) The definition of the Health Index (HI) needs to be clearly presented in the text referring to the literature by Fan (2013); because the results of HI are shown in Figures 1, 2, and 6, as an important parameter in this paper.
2) As mentioned in the manuscript, light environment is expressed by light intensity (PPFD), spectral distribution, and lighting cycle (photoperiod) and their daily variations. Therefore, the sentence (‘e.g., on Line 466) “LED light promotes high-quality tomato seedlings” is not an appropriate expression. Specify the PPFD, spectral distribution, and photoperiod for promoting high-quality tomato seedlings.
3) Describe the day or time of sampling clearly (e.g., x days after sowing, at Day x, or x days after transplanting) in Figures 1, 2, 4, and 5, and Table 3. Many readers look at the figures and tables before reading the text.
4) In Table 2, the SPAD units are given as the numerical data with 4 significant digits. Are they so accurate? What is the accuracy of SPAD unit given by the manufacturer?
5) Describe the B/R light ratio or blue:green:red ratio of fluorescent lamps in Materials and Methods section, if possible. The ratio varies greatly with the product number of the manufacturer.
6) Use the unit of mmol/m2/s instead of mmole/m2/s (e.g., Line 79)
7) Use the term “photoperiod” instead of light photoperiod (e.g., Line 250 (Figure 3). The word “photo” means light, so “light photoperiod” means “photo photoperiod”.
8) Use the term “R/B ratio” or “R/B light ratio” instead of “light ratio (e.g., Line 230, Figure 1), as used on Line 224.
9) Use “12h/d” as on Line 251 instead of “12 h/day (e.g., Lines 22, 83, 97, and Figure 2 (horizontal axis))
