Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is not a new approach or new research, but the article explores the potential of bamboo-based building systems by addressing the gap in existing research on the economic aspects of bamboo construction.

This is an account of a report chronicling the use of this technology in the Philippines.

The article is full of references to relevant bamboo research that are compared.

Nevertheless, I would like to make some recommendations to the authors:

1 Figure 1 Captions come out partly off the page;

2 Introduction to be streamlined because it is too long and full of concepts that you already know;

3 It is recommended that tables should always be arranged using the same font size for all;

4 Although the paper demonstrates with in-depth analysis that the material analyzed is strongly sustainable for the construction industry, further thought could be added on the environmental impact that a significant increase in bamboo forests could have

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1. Why you have chosen the mass flow model? Justify

2. Transfer coefficient k is calculated, how does it relate to bamboo construction? Explain

3. If I am not wrong bamboo absorbs water, how that can be controlled?

4. Whether the water absorption is considered in LCA? If not please include a few lines

5. According to Figure 8, how the carbon dioxide balance is calculated in the negative direction is measured. Explain

6. Still in discussion further can be extended to describe, the connectivity between the k factor, cost, and LCA, to understand the sustainability of bamboo houses.

7. In conclusion, add the numerical and explain.

8. Overall article is good, better after the introduction may include process flow.

9. May include a few more latest references and discuss LCA in detail.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors,

Please I have made some comments and suggestions as indicated below. Please, go through your manuscript and make the following changes.

General remarks:

·        Check some (highlighted in green) grammatical orders in the manuscript

·        Graphs must stand by themselves the footnotes of the figures should be clearly explained, Figure 4.

·        Equations must be followed by a brief explanation of the variables in the equation, equation 18.

·        How strong are the bamboo construction schemes to overcome typhoons? Please address in the introduction part about the suitability and acceptability of the bamboo construction by the people.

Line 21: Please, arrange keywords according to alphabetical order.

Line 94: Capitalize the first letter “the life cycle assessment (LCA) is . . .”.

Line 404: The atmosphere, plantation, and the Anthropocene show a cycle of the C mass flow. Please indicate (give scientific name) the source and the sink of each part and provide a brief explanation in the footnote.

Line 427 – 428: Please make the equation clear. Make this expression (C concentration per unit tree or sq. meter or sq surface area per unit wall of the bamboo house?) clear for the reader.

Line 472: It is also worthwhile to add the average time (months or years) to produce a mature pole from planting to harvest.

Line 883: “In this paper, aim is to assess. . . “ can be rewritten as. . . The aim of this paper was to . . .

Line 886: “Our results show the substantial. . . can be written as . . . “Our study indicated that . . .”

 With regards,

The reviewer
