Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Economic Loss and Financial Risk Assessment of Ecological Environment Caused by Environmental Pollution under Big Data

The authors have picked an important topic to research and used a valid methodology. The area of research is timely and will interest of many researchers across different fields. However, I suggest improving the presentation of the manuscript before accepting it for publication.

Abstract (Line 15) “Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was also introduced” this statement is not clear. Are you the first to introduce AHP? Or “improved AHP” for this specific research?

Intext citations should be fixed. See, section 2. The review of the literature is not sufficient.

Figure 1 is not correctly presented. It is not an integral part of “Ecological Environment Big Data Application” as you have discussed. It is a sequential process.

The authors have clearly discussed the AHP process, particularly it has compared AHP and Fuzzy AHP. However, they fail to discuss the way they collect data for different sub-criteria. Then how did you define the relative importance of criteria? It is also not clear the use of big data. I suggest the authors need to specify the specific research problem/ context clearly. The study context and data collection need to be clearly discussed. You also need to compare and contrast your results with existing research. How your application can be used elsewhere?

Economic Loss and Financial Risk Assessment of Ecological Environment Caused by Environmental Pollution under Big Data

The authors have picked an important topic to research and used a valid methodology. The area of research is timely and will interest of many researchers across different fields. However, I suggest improving the presentation of the manuscript before accepting it for publication.

Answer: "Thank you for your advice. The manuscript does have some areas for improvement, which will be actively improved below.

Abstract (Line 15) “Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was also introduced” this statement is not clear. Are you the first to introduce AHP? Or “improved AHP” for this specific research?

Answer: "Thank you for your advice.I have improved the sentence to make it clearer: “An improved Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is proposed in this paper.”

Intext citations should be fixed. See, section 2. The review of the literature is not sufficient.

Answer: "Thank you for your advice. I have added an 11th document:“used Fe3O4/GO/DCTA supported 1, 2-diaminocyclohexatetraacetic acid composite (Fe3O4/GO/DCTA) as adsorbent to remove Cu(II). The effects of six organic acid ligands (formate, acetate, benzoate, oxalate, tartrate and glycolate) on the adsorption process were studied in mono-ligand and multi-ligand systems. The results show that the adsorption process is affected”.

Figure 1 is not correctly presented. It is not an integral part of “Ecological Environment Big Data Application” as you have discussed. It is a sequential process.

Answer: "Thank you for your advice. “Ecological Environment Big Data Application”I changed it to “Ecological Environment Big Data process”

Answer: Thank you for your advice. First of all, I added the content of big data in the introduction: “Today's age is the information age, is the age of data, data is the symbol of wealth. With the rapid development of information technology, the emergence of Internet Plus, the Internet of Things and cloud computing, big data technology emerges at the historic moment.”Secondly, I added data in the abstract to make the comparison more obvious “The risk factors are classified into high risk factor group (50%).”

Reviewer 2 Report

The idea, conception and theoretic background of the paper are good and justified. The modelling aspects of the paper seems to be rationale, however I can not present  fully professional oppinion in this area. This is a quite innovative approach to optimise the environmental needs policy and economic  possibility of implementing and financing it. More information and explanations would be appreciated in the area how to  apply the use of big data to formulate a policy and practical activity in different scales; global, continental, regional and local. In discussion and conclusions the question of transfering  the theoretical concep into practical application should be strenghtened. For this the empirical  approach to this problem would be helpfull.

Author Response

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I made some suggestions in the discussion section: “We will strengthen the publicity and popularization of knowledge related to the application of big data on environmental pollution prevention and control, and raise the public's awareness of responsibility. In view of the public's poor understanding of environmental big data, the government and environmental protection departments should do a good job in publicity and education, actively publicize the significance and application methods of environmental big data to the public, and improve the public's understanding of environmental big data.”

Reviewer 3 Report

The ecological environment problem is of great significance to the regional economic and social sustainable development. The ecological environment risk assessment is an important work for regional sustainable development decision-making. However, this manuscript does not reveal how to scientifically assess ecological environmental risks. This research does not effectively solve the key scientific issue and needs to be great improved.

1.      The title is very confusing. Economic loss and financial risk assessment of ecological environment are two scientific issues or one scientific issue? How to distinguish economic loss from financial risk? The full text of the manuscript did not explain this.

2.      In the Introduction, it said the big data can provide important support for information collection, real-time monitoring process, and early warning and decision-making, which is the main innovation of this research. But in the Literature Review, it is no introduction about what difficulties are encountered in these processes now. And in the main part, there is also no analysis on how big data solves these difficulties.

3.      In the Models and methods, the Figure 1 introduced the four steps of big data application. How are these four steps applied to risk assessment?

4.      The Figure 2 is also confusing. Usually, the relationship between the degree of environmental damage and functional damage should be divided into damage degree and functional damage. What’s more, costs and benefits could be combined for the cost and benefit comparison. These are all different from the logic of Figure 2. And according to the logic of Figure 2, the economic loss evaluation is a step of financial risk assessment. This is contrary to the title.

5.      Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a classic decision-making method. What’s the relationship between the big data application and AHP?

6.      The Figure 4 showed the environmental pollution economic loss and financial risk assessment system is composed by resources and energy consumption subsystem, emission subsystem and economic loss subsystem. But in the index evaluation table, there are emission, economic loss and financial risk. It is really hard to understand the different subsystems. And according to the logic of index evaluation table, the economic loss and financial risk are two aspects of assessment, as well as the emission. This is contrary to the Figure 2.

7.      The Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) was proposed in the 1970s. This manuscript explains in detail the advantages of FAFP over the AHP. What is the scientific significance?

8.      No explanation of data source. The research conclusion cannot be supported. Especially in the part of strategy optimization, all suggestions could be put forward without this research, and some suggestions are even no directly related to the analysis result of this study.

Author Response

1.The title is very confusing. Economic loss and financial risk assessment of ecological environment are two scientific issues or one scientific issue? How to distinguish economic loss from financial risk? The full text of the manuscript did not explain this.

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I explain in the summary: “On the one hand, financial growth is an important reason for the decline of environmental quality; on the other hand, the change of environmental quality and the increase of pollution discharge also have counterforces to financial growth.”

2.In the Introduction, it said the big data can provide important support for information collection, real-time monitoring process, and early warning and decision-making, which is the main innovation of this research. But in the Literature Review, it is no introduction about what difficulties are encountered in these processes now. And in the main part, there is also no analysis on how big data solves these difficulties.

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I have given the difficulties in related work: “Because different departments, different systems and different databases have different methods of data accounting and semantic understanding, it is difficult to integrate environmental data.”

3.In the Models and methods, the Figure 1 introduced the four steps of big data application. How are these four steps applied to risk assessment?

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I have summed up these four words: “Monitor the environmental quality status and the trend of the change of environmental problems, find out the status of environmental pollution sources and the risks existing in the environment, and make risk prediction. The application of big data technology in environmental protection is conducive to the transformation of monitoring methods in the face of severe ecological environment conditions and environmental problems, and is conducive to the formation of an integrated monitoring system combining point and surface, dynamic and dynamic, and sky and earth.”

4.The Figure 2 is also confusing.

Answer: Thank you for your advice.According to the meaning of the question, I have deleted "risk assessment".

5.Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a classic decision-making method. What’s the relationship between the big data application and AHP?

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I have explained AHP and big data related content: “To do data mining, there must be goals, then define the appropriate key factors or hierarchical goals, and then do data mining. This will shorten your digging time and increase your efficiency. In data mining, it is very important to build a cube, and the cube itself is a multi-layer structure. So from these aspects, analytic hierarchy process and data mining can be used together.”

6.The Figure 4 showed the environmental pollution economic loss and financial risk assessment system is composed by resources and energy consumption subsystem, emission subsystem and economic loss subsystem. But in the index evaluation table, there are emission, economic loss and financial risk. It is really hard to understand the different subsystems. And according to the logic of index evaluation table, the economic loss and financial risk are two aspects of assessment, as well as the emission. This is contrary to the Figure 2.

Answer: Thank you for your advice.“environmental pollution economic loss and financial risk assessment system”it's been changed“AHP structure model”。

7.The Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) was proposed in the 1970s. This manuscript explains in detail the advantages of FAFP over the AHP. What is the scientific significance?

Answer: Thank you for your advice.in (3)Construction of pairwise comparison judgment matrix in AHP: “In view of the multiple environmental accidents, the application of FAHP combined with AHP technology is more targeted and accurate for the decision making of environmental accident emergency response plan.”

8.No explanation of data source. The research conclusion cannot be supported. Especially in the part of strategy optimization, all suggestions could be put forward without this research, and some suggestions are even no directly related to the analysis result of this study.

Answer: Thank you for your advice.I deleted the seemingly irrelevant content of this article: “ It is needed to implement cleaner production audits, and fully implement the system of charging and controlling the total amount of pollutants discharged.”
