Thank you very much for the pleasure of reviewing the article, the topic addressed in the study is discussed not enough and crucial for the wellbeing of people, especially of city dwellers in time of climate change. Below the specific comments and remarks:

L 17 why the tree protection is insufficient?

L 59 citations are need to strengthen the statement about insufficient tree protection

L245 of all tree species?

L 367 – 368 “new rational and legal frameworks must be 367 developed to improve the efficiency of tree protection” – did you considered replacement value or ecosystem services value as a tree protection tool?

Reviewer 2 Report

This is a well written review. Authores summarized classification of tree and function of trees firstly. Then they presented the discussion of the  available tools to protect trees, including diverse agreements, legal tools. Finally, they discussed rights of trees.  Overall, I like this review. However, I found that the reivew neglects the genetic diversity of trees. I know that this is a large pile. However, I feel that genetic diversity of the endangered trees and the likely consequences of the reduced endangered trees should be discussed as an important part that is closely related to the tree protection.

Answer: Indeed, this issue is extremely important. However, as mentioned by the reviewer, it exceeds the scope of this mini-review. Nevertheless, we decided to highlight this point with a short text fragment and 2 new citations at the end of the manuscript in Conclusions.
