Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments to the authors:

This paper uncovers the structural effect of natural and social factors on land subsidence in Beijing by using the GTWR and SCMC methods. The logic is fluent, the analysis is solid, the conclusion is clear, and the paper is well written. I recommend accepting this paper before some minor revisions.

1. I am not sure the “Structural Effect Mechanisms” in the title is proper to summarize the analysis by GTWR and SCMC. Though I have seen similar use by Yang et al. (2021, Sustainability), the authors could give more words on the use of this.

2. Figures 6-9, the authors might need to present the p-values for all the variables to show whether the GTWR regression coefficients is significant or not.

other minors:

Lines 111-119 is repeated (it is the same as lines 96-104.)

Line 131: “which included” – “which includes”

Line 133: “km2”, also presented in other lines

Line 151: grammar error, no subject

Line 175: “depended on “ – “is depended on”

Line 176 “ existing study demonstrated”. It might be proper to use the simple past tense to describe what has done in the work, but the authors need to pay attention to not overuse this.

Line 292: “T2”

Line 295: “ni”, “nc”, “nv”

Line 306: “R2”, also presented in other lines

Research value- Contribution to society

Interesting study with practical potential. Explain the importance of the research in comparison with previous studies.

Explains the differential contributions of the research and explains their impact on humanity due to the effects land subsidence on production and life. Added value per science.

1.     INTRODUCTION:

It explains the topic quite well. Even for the understanding of non-experts

Line 92. Reference 19 Lu is mentioned et al. But in reference 19 itself (Line 607) Lu appears as the only author. Verify consistence

2.     MATERIALS & METHODS:

Well explained methodology

3.     RESULTS

Line 332 Revise syllable separation in population

Explains clearly the model used and its suitability for current study

Line 398. Eliminate duplicated “for”

Line 419. The name of the Figure 11 was mixed with text. Separate

Line 421. Correct population

4.     DISCUSSION

The discussion of results its clear and explain the importance of the research to understand the problem described and possible application of this research method to other different cases, with suggestions to policymakers.

This manuscript proposed an analytical framework to elaborate the structural effect mechanisms of influencing factors on land subsidence. One of my concern is what's your innovation of this paper. The CONCLUSION is missing by the way.
