Transforming Brownfields As Mining Tourism Destinations And Their Sustainability on the example of Slovakia

REVIEW-2.

However, some aspects have to be explained/improved:

  • Regarding the survey, it is explained that it has been carried out on the basis of students perception. It would be interesting to justify this aspect. Why has the opinion of local communities not been taken into account? Local communities are the ones that can play an essential role in strengthening the territorial identity of these areas, and consequently, promoting their development on the basis of tourism activity.

- revised and explained in lines 110-112.

  • The discussion section talks about the danger of non-cataloging, inventory or unmapping these resources. In line 160, says “We have dealt with the research and mapping of mining ...since 2008…” So, why is there no map with brownfields in Slovakia? A map or figure of brownfields in Slovakia would be responding the main aim.

- our research of brownfields in Slovakia have not yet been complete. Their database is completed and the mapping process will follow. Therefore, the process of mapping mining brownfields from the manuscript text (line 162) has been removed.

  • It would be advisable to reflect, in the theoretical section, on the concept of "post-industrial tourism", this would help to better define the theoretical basis of the study, since it is these tourism formulas that are planned to be developed. Similarly, if we are talking about the possible sustainability of these tourism practices, it should be mentioned the recommendations that the World Tourism Organization proposes to do so.

- revised, text was added in lines 231-240.

  • The text omits an essential reference: The Nizhny Tagil Charter on Industrial Heritage. It is essential that its contents be referenced in the article.

- revised, text was added in lines 369-374.

  • A very illustrative example worldwide of the reorientation and revival of mining heritage in rural areas is the mercury mines of Almadén (Spain). It would be advisable to make a brief mention in paragraph 4.3.

- revised, text was added in lines 323-326.

Round 3

Reviewer 2 Report

The reference 96 is not appropiate because it dealts with Campo de Calatrava (volcanic region) that does have not to do with Almaden region. Please, remove it, and look for another reference using Google Scholar: (Parque minero de Almadén)

Author Response

Dear reviewer,

according to your suggestion we have removed reference nr. 96 and filled in new one, which is more appropriate.

New reference is:

Mansilla Plaza, L. El Parque Minero de Almadén. Un modelo de recuperación del patrimonio minero industrial. Her&Mus. Heritage & Museography, 2011, No. 6, pp. 13-24. Available online: https://www.raco.cat/index.php/Hermus/article/view/313656.

Thank you very much for all your notes, that make our manuscript better.

Yours cincerelly
