Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

First of all, I would like to congratulate the very high-quality scientific article. The manuscript meets the requirements for the special issue "Inventory Management for Sustainable Industrial".

The article has the model structure required by the publisher. All the parts in the research manuscript section, i.e. Introductions, Theoretical background, Methodology, Results, Discussion and Conclusions contain the required elements and are characterized by the sufficient quality of presentation.

  1. The article presents research goals (lines 101-105). The goals have been achieved but its should be included in the introduction, not in the literature review!
  2. The introduction is too long, please consider shortening this part of the article, especially since a significant part of the introduction (from the line no. 48?) should be considered as a part of the literature review. In my opinion, an introduction should not exceed 0,5-1 page.
  3. The future research directions (line 693-697) could be more exposed.

The reviewer has no comments concerning the research methodology used and its presentation in the manuscript.

The paper in general is good.

  1. Please proof read the paper. There are issues with language, typos, and mathematical symbols
  2. The context of the supply chain problem is not defined well. The mathematical representations are Ok but the context needs to be communicated better.
  3. Please explain 'correlated demand' and how it fits with the 'Bullwhip' effect.
  4. The single echelon supply chain is not clear. If it is bullwhip effect how far upstream are you modelling?
  5. The simulation environment must be explained clearer (not the mathematical environment but the contextual)
  6. The results of the study can be explained better with managerial implications
  7. It will help to reflect on what this means from a 'sustainability' angle.

The paper presents an interesting study about the bullwhip effect. The study is well structured and plenty of literature. The methodology and the results discussion is interesting too.

The paper can be accepted in the present form.
