Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Congratulation ! I consider your article to be very interesting and valuable not only for the readers in Central Europe but worldwide. The span of years between 2010 and 2017 has very informative value.

Author Response

We would like to thank to reviewer 1 for very positive review and are looking forward to get other notes and suggestions to improve our paper.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thank you very much for your work which is very interesting and helps the scientific community.

Firstly, it should be noted that the subject matter indicated in the paper is not new and that there are many works on this subject, although it may be new in context. The following suggestions are made in order for the authors to improve their work.

Title: The word "Secular" is not well understood in this context. They should reform the title.

Introduction: There are many quotes that don't add up. For example in the first paragraph there are up to 24 quotations. Authors are advised to remove those that are not essential in other parts of the paper and to prioritize the most current ones.

In the introduction they should clearly specify what the variables of the study are. They talk about the levels of physical activity in their context in a general way. The work would be improved if at least they talked about each variable in a specific way in each paragraph.
"The aim of the study" should not be in bold.

The sample is well explained although it would be interesting to know if the adolescents belonged to federated teams.

In the results, Table 2 should be in accordance with PLA standards.

In the discussion, the paragraph that begins on line 255 is very important since it tries to analyze the free time of adolescents, which is the one that should increase their level of physical activity. This paragraph is a little short and the authors should go into it a little more deeply. In this way, they could analyze the levels of satisfaction and experiences in school children prior to the study age of this paper. In this sense, the work referred to may be of help to them:

 Sainz de Baranda, P.; Visiedo, A.; Ruiz-Díaz, A.; Pérez-Sánchez, J.M.; Romera-García, F.; Martínez-Romero, M.T.; Cejudo, A.; Rodríguez-Ferrán, O. (2020). Niveles de Satisfacción y Preferencias de los escolares participantes en el Programa SALUD 5-10. Journal of Sport and Health Research. 12(Supl 1):39-52.

Finally, the conclusions that the authors have drawn are in line with the objectives set out. They are therefore relevant and important in the context of their country.

Author Response

We would like to thank to reviewer 2 for very important notes and suggestions and we tried to use them to improve our paper.

Title: The word "Secular" is not well understood in this context. They should reform the title.

Response: We would like to keep the secular trends in the title as it expresses the occurring or persisting changes over an indefinitely long period, not primarily religious understanding. Many references in the paper also declare secular trends related to sedentary behavior or physical activity. If this is not acceptable, then we will keep simply “Trends in the achievement…”

Introduction: There are many quotes that don't add up. For example in the first paragraph there are up to 24 quotations. Authors are advised to remove those that are not essential in other parts of the paper and to prioritize the most current ones.

Response: Thank you for the comment, we removed the references of older age and kept those most relevant to the topic, which also reduced the total number of cited references in the paper.

In the introduction they should clearly specify what the variables of the study are. They talk about the levels of physical activity in their context in a general way. The work would be improved if at least they talked about each variable in a specific way in each paragraph.
"The aim of the study" should not be in bold.

Response: We tried to adapt this part to make it more focused, but we wanted to introduce the topic from more general way as it is not so clearly focus on specific variables only. We thing the part of Introduction in last paragraph asking the research questions is dealing with focusing topics of subjective and objective measures and following by the main aim. We hope this helped to readability of this part. We also removed bold from the aim.

The sample is well explained although it would be interesting to know if the adolescents belonged to federated teams.

Response: No, adolescents did not belong to federated teams

In the results, Table 2 should be in accordance with PLA standards.

Response: Table 2 was optimized according to standards

In the discussion, the paragraph that begins on line 255 is very important since it tries to analyze the free time of adolescents, which is the one that should increase their level of physical activity. This paragraph is a little short and the authors should go into it a little more deeply. Response: Thank you for this note, we discussed a bit more this topic and also included your recommended reference to give larger sense of this important part of the day in PA behavior.

Finally, the conclusions that the authors have drawn are in line with the objectives set out. They are therefore relevant and important in the context of their country.
