SCRM Awareness in the Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Market: Empirical Evidence from South Korea, China, and Singapore
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Many thanks for submitting your paper to Sustainability. This paper aims to examine the relationship between a level of corporate awareness and SCRM development in the global shipbuilding and marine equipment supply market. I think that this paper’s topic is quite interesting because the prior studies overlooked SCRM in the shipbuilding and marine equipment supply market. Probably, this research may contribute to expanding the current knowledge of SCRM in the given contexts. The employed methodological approach is rigorous, and the results are well interpreted, which leads to various implications for those industries. Therefore, I recommend ‘minor revision’. Please see my further comments below in order to improve the paper’s quality.
- In line 13 of abstract, “influence on business performance” can be changed to “their influence on business performance”.
- In line 24 of abstract, “was low” should be “were low”.
- In line 34 of introduction, ‘and’ should be moved to below sentence (e.g. in front of the global division)
- In line 79 of introduction, the authors may want to explain about the remainder of this paper (e.g. Section 2 reviews literature. The methodology is explained in section 3……………………)
- Overall, literature review part is sound. Nonetheless, I think that one recent paper which is very relevant to this study is ignored (e.g. Kwak et al. (2018)). This study investigated the relationship between SCRM and competitive advantage in global supply chains, so including this in literature review part may enrich the current paper’s arguments about the relationship between SCRM and performance.
- Kwak et al. (2018), Investigating the relationship between supply chain innovation, risk management capabilities and competitive advantage in global supply chains, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, 38(1), pp. 2-21
- In conclusion, I think that if the authors add a couple of sentences (specific implications) that can be delivered to managers in shipbuilding and marine equipment supply market, it may much contribute to the knowledge of SCRM of the given industries.

This study analyzes the relationships between the awareness levels of supply chain risk 13 management (SCRM) importance, level of development, and influence on business performance in 14 the shipbuilding and marine equipment industry. Following are my comments pertaining to the research work,
1. Proper interconnection between two subsequent paragraphs need to be better established to enhance articulation of the article. Authors are advised to perform a thorough proof-read of the paper for improving the language.
2. This paper highlights that the risk awareness and its impact and importance on the supply chain business performance. More clarity is required to highlight how the data acquisition purpose for understanding supply chain risk can be performed for predicting some of the possible future outcomes which may have an impact on the business performance.
3. Alot of supply chain papers within maritime transportation domain which have been overlooked and need to be referred and discussed within the research paper.

4. Authors are advised to summarise the research gaps/issues by citing relevant papers and then add the contributions by mentioning how the research gaps are bridged. The motivation associated with the research work need to be clearly described even more elaborately. Moreover, author needs to summarise the research gaps by highlighting their base papers and clearly focussing on the research issues that were overlooked in those papers.
5. The scholar has used the subjective data (judgmental responses) from the experts through questionnaire survey for the proposed method. In order to capture the uncertainty risk element, which type of method is most suitable? How have authors adjusted for the response bias.
6. Managerial insights need to be provided to highlight the intricacies associated with the results obtained. Moreover, important discussions about the results pertaining to strategic decision making might be a beneficial managerial insight.
