Round  1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors, thanks for your paper.

While your paper is of interest to some, I dont think the journal of Sustainability is the right home.  You only touch on sustainability as a concept and do not explore or engage with the ideas of sustainability or especially sustainability education in this research.

Best wishes.

This paper is technically sound. The presentation is clear, the tables are well laid out. Sometimes the English is a little stiff and there are problems with singular and plural of verbs and the definite/indefinite article.

There is a problem however with the primary assumption made about sustainability and since that is the topic of this journal it is worthwhile for the authors to have another look.

The key concept is organisational commitment (OC), new to this reviewer but basically not unfamiliar.The data is extensive. Figure 1 is problematic as it is not used much in the rest of the paper and it speaks in the text of institutional sustainability but in the figure, of OC.

The flaw in the argument is in the somewhat superficial statement that sustainability is linked to economics, society and the environment, and that these can be treated as economic sustainability, societal sustainibility and environmental sustainability.. The reference to a paper by     .. and these authors have written several papers on this topic..I have the feeling that this paper is a little opportunistic. I say all this this with caution as I have been in a similar situation. When teaching school middle managers about HRD, financial management and operation management in the same course and trying to fina a holistic approach, and realising after a few sessions that the two courses said much the same thing i.e. that a good use of resources, especially human resources is in harmony with practical aspects of sustainability. There is not much depth to the discussion of sustainability rather it is as if it was added to the OC argument and manuscript when that was already well-developed.

Thank you for the opportunity to read your paper.

Some comments/suggestions:

- Please development the idea: "The adopted different education models (intensive foreign language, physical sciences or social sciences programs)", and the relation with "The research population consists of all Imam Hatip Schools (or Religious Vocational High Schools)";

- I desagree with: "Sustainability is regarded as the ability to carry on under certain conditions, maintain the existing situation and continuance. (Becker, 2012)";

- rewrite all the text for typos and a better readability;

- it seems necessary an updated of the references in for a better justification of the relation about "Sustainable Development and Organizational Sustainability.";

- the results are fine and clear;

- in my opinion, it's necessary a more robust justification about institutional/organizational sustainability, and the relation between org. sustainability and organizational commitment.

WOW - you have done a great job with this paper.

I still feel that you are taking the ideas of sustianability and twisting them to suit your own needs.  I dont feel comfortable thinking about this article representing sustianability education. However, you have crafted a nice paper.

Thank you so much for your valuable comments, we believe that the project schools show sustainable features in terms of organizational sustainability and see the discussion as valuable to compare with further studies in other country's eductional systems as well.

The manuscript is very better and now, in my opinion, is under the journal's focus.

Suggestions:

- organizational sustainability" in keywords;

- I don'r understant "6. Patents 729

Supplementary Materials: The following are available online at 730 https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14783363.2010.483095, Figure 1: Sustainable Development and 731 Organizational Sustainability, License number for this article: 4583630744832.". Why this indication?

Author Response

Thank you so much for your suggestions. We believed that after these changes the quality of the paper is levelled up.

'Organizational Sustainability' is added to the keywords.

Patent part is removed, you are right that it was seen unnecessary. Instead of that the reproduced reference is given under the Figure as it is the case in accordance with the journal format.
