Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This study focuses on the evolution of protective clothing for firefighters with regard to the use and integration of phase change materials, taking into account the evolution and requirements of international and European standards and national legislation for protective clothing for firefighters. In my view, the manuscript could be accepted for the publication in this esteemed journal after incorporation and revision.

The Suggestions are as follows:

(1) There is a syntax error in line 18. In this sentence, “life” should be a countable noun.

(2) The abstract part is not concise and clear enough and lacks logic. It is suggested to delete some unimportant words and reconceive them.

(3) The description of “smart firefighters PPE” in the introduction can be more specific, please refer to some relevant literature, for example, ACS NANO, 2022, 16: 2953-2967 (https://doi.org/10.1021/acsnano.1c10144).

(4) There is a reference citation error on lines 130-132.

(5) Lack of some intuitive display of mechanical and thermal insulation properties.

(6) Lines 288-289 have a formatting problem.

Author Response

Response to Reviewer 1 Comments:

P1. There is a syntax error in line 18. In this sentence, “life” should be a countable noun.

The syntax error was corrected by changing the word life for lives.

P2. The abstract part is not concise and clear enough and lacks logic. It is suggested to delete some unimportant words and reconceive them.

The abstract was revised to improve its conciseness and clarity, by deleting one unimportant sentence that interfered with the logic of the abstract.

P3. The description of “smart firefighters PPE” in the introduction can be more specific, please refer to some relevant literature, for example, ACS NANO, 2022, 16: 2953-2967 (https://doi.org/10.1021/acsnano.1c10144).

Regarding the description of smart firefighters PPE three examples were included in this section and the suggested literature was taken into account.

P4. There is a reference citation error on lines 130-132.

The citation error was corrected, referring Figure 1 in the main text.

P5. Lack of some intuitive display of mechanical and thermal insulation properties.

The mechanical properties, heat and flame resistance and thermal insulation properties were grouped and divided in the table (using a bold line) in order to make the table reading more intuitive.

P6. Lines 288-289 have a formatting problem

References were formatted.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript was well prepared, I did not detect any mistakes in the draft. The objectives of the manuscript can be considered interesting.
It is also very well prepared in terms of the content, it can attract the attention of the science readers.

Just one point: please make minor revision on page 3 line 131.
