Properties of Laser-Welded Zr-Al-Co-Nb Bulk Metallic Glass
Abstract
1. Introduction
2. Experimental Procedures
3. Results and Discussion
4. Conclusions
- Due to the lower GFA, a small amount of the Zr6CoAl2 phase was found in the amorphous matrix of the center area of the BMG cast plate.
- After the laser welding, a small size Zr(AlxCo1−x)2 was formed in the HAZs of all the welded samples, which produced higher values of microhardness in the HAZ and lower GFA indicator values in the welds.
- Regarding the lower IWT of the 0 °C weld, the small size HAZ crystalline was observed only at 70 μm below the surface of the HAZ. The corrosion tests on the welds showed better corrosion resistance with lower IWT, as compared to higher IWTs (room temperature or 10 °C).
