Swiss Cardiology in the European Showcase

Cardiology Update Davos, 24–26 October 2021:

The Cardiology Update in Davos is one of the the major meetings in the field of cardiology in Europe, with a long tradition. Since 1975, this year’s meeting will be the 24th Cardiology Update Course in Davos, Switzerland.

A new format and date

After a careful restructuring process, the programme is fit for the future and it will be in a new form and as a comprehensive course of three days duration. Furthermore, as a result of the pandemic and to comply with the new requirements, we moved the course from February to October this year. Late October offers a unique opportunity to organise the first live, in-person congress after the long lockdown caused by the COVID pandemic. It is also the ideal time to discuss face-to-face the latest clinical trial results and new 2021 ESC Guidelines published at the virtual ESC Congress in late August (Figure 1).

The course committee

The course committee includes prominent cardiologists from major Swiss university hospitals as well as from the Mayo Clinic, the Brigham and Womens Hospital / Harvard Medical School, and the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. Furthermore, representatives from all the big university and regional hospitals are part of the teaching faculty, who will mingle with distinguished faculty members from Europe and overseas. A special session is dedicated to the younger generation of cardiologists, SCOT (Swiss Cardiologists of Tomorrow), who will contribute challenging patient cases. Moderated poster sessions will attract young scientists, who can present and discuss their research projects.

Accreditation

This highly acclaimed CME-accredited programme is endorsed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Swiss Society of Cardiology. CME credits will be provided by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME-UEMS).

Programme

The three-day programme will provide an up-to-date overview of current diagnosis and management, from prevention to intervention, from arrhythmias to valvular heart disease, and from acute coronary syndromes to heart failure (Figure 2). A particular focus will be the various new ESC Practice Guidelines presented by their chairs. The educational objectives are to review and disseminate the latest knowledge about advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The course includes state-of-the-art lectures, interactive case presentations and clinical decision-making seminars, live-in-a-box cases and “Meet-the-Expert” sessions.

Attractive industry-sponsored symposia will complete the programme and provide ample information on the most recent developments of novel drugs and devices. The spirit of the course allows for a stimulating working and learning environment combined with a variety of informal events and opportunities for direct interactions between faculty members and participants (Figure 3, Figure 4 and Figure 5).
