The European Heart Journal (Figure 1) is on the move: for the first time in its history, the European Heart Journal is now ranked number 2 of all journals in the field of cardiovascular medicine worldwide, with an impact factor of 14.097. The increase in impact factor took place since the Editorial Office of the journal was taken over by a team in Zurich (Figure 2), where it has increased from 8.9 to almost 14.1 within four years.
This impressive success is mainly due to a long-term strategy involving international editors from around the world and in particular from the US, the introduction of highly illustrated review articles and editorials as well as current opinions, the possibility for authors to have their manuscripts assessed in expedited fashion, and a short turn-around time, of less than three weeks, to first decision for all standard papers.
Those responsible for the journal hope that this impressive impact factor will continue to attract excellent papers and compel European scientists to submit their work first to our journal.
The Zurich Team has implemented a new strategy to increase further the visibility and impact of the European Heart Journal. Among other things, the journal is now being published on a weekly basis, European Cardiovascular Mobility and Mortality statistics are published on a yearly basis, and an increased number of editorials, review articles and current opinions are included.
The editors of the European Heart Journals are grateful for all the support they receive from reviewers in Switzerland and beyond, and look forward to receiving the best papers from Switzerland.
