The Effects of Guided Imagery on Women’s Health: A Systematic Review of Experimental Studies

- Modern public health requires the integration of accessible, patient-centered, and non-pharmacological interventions to holistically address the complex interplay between psychological well-being and physiological processes in women’s health.
- This systematic review synthesizes scientific evidence from 29 experimental studies involving 1939 women, confirming that guided imagery significantly mitigates psychological distress (anxiety, stress, depression) and manages physical symptoms (pain, fatigue, and treatment side effects).
- The findings establish that guided imagery has evolved from a simple relaxation tool into a highly effective, low-cost, and non-invasive mind–body intervention applicable across diverse clinical areas, including oncology, perinatal care, and surgical settings.
- Health professionals, particularly nurses and midwives, should systematically integrate guided imagery into standard clinical protocols and perinatal care to enhance the birthing experience, reduce surgical fear, and improve patient satisfaction.
