Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this manuscript, the authors reported non-destructive evaluation of electrically conductive austenitic biomaterials using sensitive fluxgate sensor. The methods and results are interesting, and I recommend publication of this work in this journal. However, the following issues should be addressed:

1. A major concern is that the novelty of this work should be addressed, especially the performance superiority when compared with other methods. The development of this work should be included by authors, and typical comparative results with others should be added.

2. The long introduction part should be refined and condensed, in order to introduce the background briefly and propose the challenge directly. Some paragraphs also need to be merged with a clear structure.

3. In figure 4, the SEM pictures and texts are hard to read, which need to be improved. For better explanation, further material characterization also need to be added including elemental mapping analysis and hysteresis loop measurement.

4. In figure 8 and 9, the colorful scale bars of the magnetic field intensities should be consistent. The details of diverse scanning directions (side 1-6) should be explained in details. How about the results of specimen No. 1?

5. In figure 10 and 11, the lines of various specimens are hard to read. In figure 12 and 13, the graphic and layout are confusing which should be revised, and the contained insets (ABC) should also be explained for better demonstration and readability.

6. There are totally 17 figures in the manuscript, which need to be reorganized. Some ones can be put together in one figure, and some of the results should be put in supporting information.

7. The sensors and working mechanisms should also be described in detail.

8. The references should be enriched with the journal standard and double-check the format. English also needs to be improved throughout the manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript titled ”Non-destructive Investigation of Intrinsic Magnetic Field of Austenitic Biomaterials by Magnetic Field Sensors“ focuses on non-destructive evaluation of austenitic biomaterials by using senstive fluxgate sensor. The overall quality of the manuscript is fine, expect the following problems:

1. There are some grammar mistakes or typos. Please have a check on the writing to improve the quality.

2. The references [10] and [11] are the same. So in the manuscript, all the numbers after [11] are wrong.

3.As listed in TABLE II, four samples are prepared, with different temperatures and duration times. Authors should explain the reason for the preparation.

Reviewer 3 Report

The authors show evaluation of the intrinsic magnetic field using a fluxgate sensor to austenitic steels, which are applied with various heat treatment and mechanical deformation. The reviewer suggests to publish the manuscript after minor revisions.

In the figure 4b, the words on the scale bar looks too small, please increase, and also the parameter words should be increased too.
