Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) are nano-scale particles that resemble silicates in their physical properties and inertness. They are commonly used as additives for polymeric materials to manipulate physical and mechanical characteristics at the molecular level. In this paper, dimethylsiloxane-terminated POSS (H-POSS) was functionalized with approximately 1 equivalent of perfluorooctylether groups via hydrosilylation with a platinum catalyst to yield “F-POSS”. The desired monosubstituted product was isolated at a 57% yield with greater than 90% purity.

Overall the manuscript is well put together and demonstrates a new Q-cage POSS derivative with mono-fluoro chain. The reviewer is just surprised that further substitution statistical distributions of functionalization and more starting material were not observed in the synthesis.

Overall the manuscript can be published as is.
