Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors described the synthesis and structural characterization of 1-(((6-(methoxycarbonyl)-5-oxononan-4-yl)oxy)carbonyl)cyclo-propane-1-carboxylic acid. I consider that the manuscript meets all requirements to be published in “Molbank” after major revision. It is concerning to find 14 instances of self-citations by Prof. Alexander O. Terent'ev, which raises ethical concerns. This discovery may influence my final decision. Additional suggestions and comments are included:

(1) See abstract. It seem as an introduction section. Consequently, the following paragraph should be omitted: “The oxidation chemistry of alkyl ketene dimers is largely unexplored. On the other hand, cyclic diacyl peroxides has been the subject of intense study over the last few decades due to the versatility of their properties, which are the source of an ever-increasing number of unique oxidative transformations”. Additionally, it is important to include the most relevant experimental data and reaction conditions. It would also be beneficial to highlight the advantages of this protocol compared to previous reports.

(2) See results and discussion, lines 64 and 65. The authors mention that “The mixture of diastereomers 3 was characterized by NMR, IR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry (Figures S1–S4, Supplementary Materials)”. The structure of the synthesized compound should be confirmed by providing an explanation of the most pertinent IR and NMR data.

(3) See 3.2. Synthesis of 4-butylidene-3-propyloxetan-2-one (1). IR, NMR, and HRMS data should be included. In addition, all spectra should be included in the Supplementary Material.

(4) See 3.3. Synthesis of cyclopropyl malonoyl peroxide (2). IR, NMR, and HRMS data should be included. In addition, all spectra should be included in the Supplementary Material.

(5) See 3.3. Synthesis of cyclopropyl malonoyl peroxide (2). To confirm the proposed structure, HSQC, HMBC, COSY, and NOESY experiments should be taken, processed, and included in the Supplementary Material.

(6) See 3.3. Synthesis of cyclopropyl malonoyl peroxide (2). UV-Vis data should be included in the manuscript. Also, UV-Vis spectrum should be added in the Supplementary Material.

(7) See conclusions, lines 116 to 119. It has the same problem that abstract section. Additionally, it is important to include the most relevant experimental data and reaction conditions. It would also be beneficial to highlight the advantages of this protocol compared to previous reports.

(8) See references. According to the guideline of “Molbank”, the DOI of each artichle should be included.

(9) See Scheme 2. The plausible mechanism should be included. Moreover, a short explanation should be added in the manuscript.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors described the synthesis and structural characterization of 1-(((6-(methoxycarbonyl)-5-oxononan-4-yl)oxy)carbonyl)cyclo-propane-1-carboxylic acid. They have incorporated all modifications suggested by the reviewers. Therefore, I believe that the manuscript, in its current form, meets all the requirements for publication in "Molbank." However, I would like to express my concerns regarding the presence of 8 self-citations (14 during the first revision) of Prof. Alexander O. Terent'ev, which raises ethical considerations.
