Hair loss disorders, particularly androgenetic alopecia (AGA), are common conditions that carry significant psychosocial impact. Current standard therapies, including minoxidil, finasteride, and hair transplantation, primarily slow progression or re-distribute existing follicles and do not regenerate lost follicular structures. In recent years, regenerative medicine has been associated with a gradual shift toward approaches that aim to restore follicular function and architecture. Stem cell-derived conditioned media and exosomes have shown the ability to activate Wnt/β-catenin signaling, enhance angiogenesis, modulate inflammation, and promote dermal papilla cell survival, resulting in improved hair density and shaft thickness with favorable safety profiles. Autologous cell-based therapies, including adipose-derived stem cells and dermal sheath cup cells, have demonstrated the potential to rescue miniaturized follicles, although durability and standardization remain challenges. Adjunctive interventions such as microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) further augment follicular regeneration by inducing controlled micro-injury and releasing growth and neurotrophic factors. In parallel, machine learning-based diagnostic tools and deep hair phenotyping offer improved severity scoring, treatment monitoring, and personalized therapeutic planning, while robotic Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) platforms enhance surgical precision and graft preservation. Advances in tissue engineering and 3D follicle organoid culture suggest progress toward producing transplantable follicle units, though large-scale clinical translation is still in early development. Collectively, these emerging biological and technological strategies indicate movement beyond symptomatic management toward more targeted, multimodal approaches. Future progress will depend on standardized protocols, regulatory clarity, and long-term clinical trials to define which regenerative approaches can reliably achieve sustainable follicle renewal in routine cosmetic dermatology practice. Mentoring is a series of communication interactions over time that involve the exchange of experiences or accumulated knowledge between individuals in a relationship with the intent of assisting growth and developing capacity. More specifically, mentoring frequently occurs in dyads that provide developmental mentoring, career development, psychosocial support, and role modeling across a continuum of formal and informal mentoring relationships, including episodic interactions. Mentoring has a long history, from guidance documented in Homer’s “Odyssey” dating back to 700 BCE, to structured mentoring programs used by organizations such as the Big Brothers (founded in 1910). However, mentoring research did not gain widespread prevalence until the 1980s when mentoring was applied across various employment sectors. This entry encompasses international scholarly publications across disciplines such as communication, business, education, medicine, engineering, psychology, sociology, and more to identify and explain key mentoring concepts, provide a comprehensive summary of existing research findings, offer strategies for effective mentoring practices, and highlight future research directions. The integration of AI-powered plush robots in educational and therapeutic settings for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) necessitates a robust interdisciplinary methodology to evaluate usability, psychological impact, and therapeutic efficacy. This study proposes and applies a four-phase research framework designed to guide the development and assessment of AI-powered plush robots for social rehabilitation and education. Phase 1 involved semi-structured interviews with 13 ASD specialists to explore robot applications. Phase 2 tested initial usability with typically developing children (N = 10–15) through structured sessions. Phase 3 involved structured interaction sessions with children diagnosed with ASD (N = 6–8) to observe the robot’s potential for rehabilitation, observed by specialists and recorded on video. Finally, Phase 4 synthesized data via multidisciplinary triangulation. Results highlighted the importance of iterative, stakeholder-informed design, with experts emphasizing visual properties (color, texture), psychosocial aspects, and adjustable functions. The study identified key technical and psychological evaluation criteria, including engagement, emotional safety, and developmental alignment with ASD intervention models. Findings underscore the value of qualitative methodologies and phased testing in developing child-centered robotic tools. The research establishes a robust methodological framework and provides preliminary evidence for the potential of AI-powered plush robots to support personalized, ethically grounded interventions for children with ASD, though their therapeutic efficacy requires further longitudinal validation. This methodology bridges engineering innovation with psychological rigor, offering a template for future assistive technology research by prioritizing a rigorous, stakeholder-centered design process. In the current context, where environmental concerns are gaining increased attention, the transition toward sustainable urban mobility stands out as a necessary and responsible step. Technological advancements over the past decade have brought private autonomous vehicles, particularly those defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers Levels 4 and 5, into focus as promising solutions for mitigating road congestion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, the extent to which Autonomous Vehicles can fulfill this potential depends largely on user acceptance, patterns of use, and their integration within broader green energy and sustainability policies. The present paper aims to develop an integrated conceptual model that links behavioral determinants to environmental outcomes, assessing how individuals’ intention to adopt private autonomous vehicles can contribute to sustainable urban mobility. The model integrates five psychosocial determinants—perceived usefulness, trust in technology, social influence, environmental concern, and perceived behavioral control—with contextual variables such as energy source, infrastructure availability, and public policy. These components interact to predict users’ intention to adopt AVs and their perceived contribution to urban sustainability. Methodologically, the study builds on a narrative synthesis of the literature and proposes a framework applicable to empirical validation through structural equation modeling (SEM). The model draws on established frameworks such as Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behavior, and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, incorporating constructs including perceived usefulness, trust in technology, social influence, environmental concern, and perceived behavioral control, constructs later to be examined in relation to key contextual variables, including the energy source powering Autonomous Vehicles—such as electricity from mixed or renewable grids, hydrogen, or hybrid systems—and the broader policy environment (regulatory frameworks, infrastructure investment, fiscal incentives, and alignment with climate and mobility strategies and others). The research provides relevant directions for public policy and behavioral interventions in support of the development of clean and smart urban transport in the age of automation. Full article

Introduction: Few applications worldwide focus on psychosocial rehabilitation, and none specifically address psychosocial rehabilitation projects. This justifies the need for an application to assist mental health professionals in constructing and managing such projects in the Brazilian mental health scenario. Objective: This study aimed to present a web application, the “Psychosocial Rehabilitation Application” (Psychosocial Rehab App), and describe its development in detail through a technological survey conducted between May 2024 and February 2025. Method: The development process of the web app was carried out in the following four stages, adapted from the Novak method: theoretical basis, requirements survey, prototyping, and development with alpha testing. The active and collaborative participation of the main researcher (a psychiatric nurse) and two undergraduate software engineers, supervised by a software engineer and a professor of nursing and psychology, was essential for producing a suitable operational product available to mental health professionals. Interactions were conducted via video calls, WhatsApp, and email. These interactions were transcribed using the Transkriptor software and inserted into the ATLAS.ti software for thematic analysis. Results: The web app “Psychosocial Rehabilitation Application” displays a home screen for registration and other screens structured into the stages of the psychosocial rehabilitation project (assessment, diagnosis, goals, intervention, agreements, and re-assessment). It also has a home screen, a resource screen, and a function screen with options to add a new project, search for a project, or search for mental health support services. These features facilitate the operation and streamline psychosocial rehabilitation projects by mental health professionals. Thematic analysis revealed three themes and seven codes describing the entire development process and interactions among participants in collaborative, interrelational work. A collaborative approach between researchers and developers was essential for translating the complexity of the psychosocial rehabilitation project into practical and usable functionalities for future users, who will be mental health professionals. Discussion: The Psychosocial Rehab App was developed collaboratively by mental health professionals and developers. It supports the creation of structured rehabilitation projects, improving decision-making and documentation. Designed for clinical use, the app promotes autonomy and recovery by aligning technology with psychosocial rehabilitation theory and the actual needs of mental health services. Conclusions: The Psychosocial Rehab App was developed through collaborative work between mental health and technology professionals. The lead researcher mediated this process to ensure that the app’s functionalities reflected both technical feasibility and therapeutic goals. Empathy and dialog were key to translating complex clinical needs into usable and context-appropriate technological solutions. Full article

By integrating the concept of sustainable human resource management and Rock’s neuroscience-based SCARF (status, certainty, autonomy, relatedness, and fairness) model, the paper aims to reveal the role of sustainable HRM practices in shaping a positive psychosocial experience of employees. Through this process, qualitative data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 50 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) workers in Lithuania. The research revealed the key characteristics of sustainable HRM practices in terms of performance management, employee relations, rewards, employee development, career management, onboarding, and dismissal that shape positive experiences of STEM workers. Moreover, harmful HRM practice characteristics were identified that need to be eliminated to achieve sustainable human resource management. The results of the study allow organizations to better understand the role of HRM practices in enhancing positive psychosocial experiences of STEM employees through strengthening the domains of the SCARF model. Based on the insights obtained, organizations could better focus their efforts on the development of sustainable HRM practices that not only increase employee engagement but also contribute to their long-term professional sustainability. Port-wine stain (PWS), a progressive congenital vascular malformation characterized by ectatic dermal capillaries, demonstrates age-dependent lesion expansion and chromatic intensification, resulting in significant psychosocial comorbidity. While systemic hematoporphyrin (HP) administration remains the clinical paradigm for photodynamic therapy (PDT), its therapeutic utility is severely constrained by non-targeted biodistribution. Pharmacokinetic analyses reveal prolonged dermal retention and suboptimal lesion accumulation, predisposing 42% of patients to phototoxic reactions. To address these limitations, this work creatively suggested a local targeted drug delivery method based on soluble microneedles in response to the difficulties mentioned above. The rational design of a molecular weight (MW) HA gradient system enabled the engineering of ternary nanocomposite microneedles with enhanced biomechanical integrity (0.49 N/needle) and superior HP loading capacity, which collectively facilitated spatiotemporally controlled transdermal delivery of hematoporphyrin with complete dissolution within 30 min. The release performance, skin permeability, and storage stability of hematoporphyrin dissolving microneedles (HP-DMNs) have all been demonstrated in vitro. This study applies soluble microneedle technology to the delivery of HP in PWS for the first time. It avoids the risk of systemic exposure through precise local administration. It uses the rapid dissolution properties of microneedles to achieve high concentration and rapid release of drugs in skin lesions. This study provides a new strategy for sustained intralesional release and rapid drug delivery treatment of PWS and provides novel ideas for the development of new formulations of HP and related photosensitizers. Background: Microtia is a congenital outer ear deformity that causes the auricle to be absent or underdeveloped. It is frequently associated with external auditory canal atresia and causes hearing and psychosocial problems. Objectives: We thoroughly investigate the aspects of microtia and explore both current and innovative therapies. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, focusing on microtia and reconstruction methodologies. This review utilized three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Results: The etiology involves both genetic and environmental factors and can occur as part of a syndrome or as an isolated condition. Clinically, it has esthetic and functional implications, potentially leading to conductive hearing loss. A multidisciplinary approach is essential for treatment, which includes surgical reconstruction using autologous cartilage or synthetic prostheses. Advances in bioengineering and 3D printing offer new, less invasive solutions. Conclusions: This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on microtia, focusing on tissue engineering for auricular reconstruction, identifying research gaps, evaluating techniques, and providing a resource for clinicians to improve decision-making and foster further research. Program managers of undergraduate research experience programs play a pivotal role in students’ learning experiences. However, their roles in this program are seldom understood and explored. One reason is that a greater focus has been put on faculty and student mentorship. Although many faculty mentors succeed in providing students with adequate support for their learning experience, students can also benefit from having access to multiple mentors, such as program managers. In this study, we employed a qualitative approach to identify the common experiences of education and outreach program managers in managing engineering undergraduate summer research experience programs and mentoring students in the United States. The findings indicate that the participants provided career and technical support that contributed to students’ success by providing general guidance, professional development opportunities, and access to resources. Also, the participants engaged in active listening and training, and supported inclusive activities to promote students’ psychosocial support. From the findings, we provide recommendations for program managers and faculty members to help reinforce students’ learning in research programs. Full article

Subsurface engineering projects with high socio-environmental impacts raise strong controversies among stakeholders, which often affects the projects’ implementation. These controversies originate from a loss of public confidence in the decision-making process, lack of information about new technologies, and the desire of some promoters to avoid conflict. The lack of methodologies to structure each stage of the debate can, in this context, lead to the crystallization of the stakeholders’ positions and to the failure of the project. To promote mutual understanding and constructive exchanges, this article presents a combination of methods based on psychosocial engineering principles to support debate and encourage stakeholders to participate with an openness posture. The method is based on a set of studies conducted as part of the “Social Governance for Subsurface Engineering” project and includes three stages: (1) develop stakeholders’ knowledge so that they are able to participate in the debate with an informed viewpoint; (2) commit stakeholders to participate in the debate by adopting a posture conducive to constructive exchanges; and (3) structure exchanges between stakeholders through the use of cooperative methods facilitating the adoption of an openness posture. The introduction of COVID-19-related psychosocial risks to the Australian architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) project organisation has triggered the development of innovative organisational interventions for mitigating the risks and promoting of positive mental health among project management (PM) practitioners. Therefore, the paper aims to explore the COVID-19-related organisational interventions for improving mental health in the AEC project organisation. Through a comprehensive literature review, 20 organisation interventions were retrieved, and an online expert forum was conducted with nine industry experts. The results of the expert opinion confirmed the 20 organisational interventions identified from the literature. Moreover, the organisational interventions were used to develop a questionnaire survey distributed among PM practitioners via convenient sampling. Mean score ranking analysis was used to analyses the survey responses from 58 participants. The research findings show that the identified organisational interventions are important, but are ranked differently by architecture, engineering and construction sectors based on their importance in promoting mental health. Background: Depression is a common mental health problem that can affect everyone at different stages of development. Though the prevalence rate of depression among university students is rising, exploration among engineering students is limited. The aim of the study was to examine the prevalence of depression and its associated factors of among engineering students in Thailand. Methods: A total of 346 students participated in this study. All completed the outcome inventory depression subscale (OI-D) to evaluate the level and prevalence of depression. Other variables assessed included social skills, learning styles, relationship satisfaction, interpersonal difficulty, alcohol use, internet addiction, and neuroticism. Correlation and regression analyses were applied to test the association between sociodemographic and psychosocial factors and depression. Results: Of the 346 students with the mean age of 20.25 (SD, 1.33), 52.31% were male. Based on the OI-D, 35.3% of participants exhibited symptoms indicative of major depression. Multiple regression showed that only neuroticism, interpersonal difficulties, social skills, and self-esteem appeared to be the significant predictors of depression. Conclusion: The prevalence of depression among engineering students in Thailand was unexpectedly high compared with the prevalence of depression among engineering students in some other countries. Intra- and interpersonal factors were found to be associated with depression. Further study on identifying these risk factors should be encouraged. Full article

This review provides an overview of the consequences of early adverse experiences across various domains of life. Drawing on the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) conceptual framework, we discuss the ACE pyramid and the varying degrees of consequences that ACE exposure may elicit. Using online search engines such as Google Scholar, the authors sifted through empirical research to locate relevant articles and research to help prepare this review. This article sheds light on the implications of ACEs for health, socio-emotional and psychosocial well-being, relationships, personality, and cognitive functioning. Full article

Background: The attrition of engineering students remains an issue, and even more so for historically marginalized students at some institutions. This study aimed to investigate the challenges minoritized students face in engineering and the ways they navigate toward success. Method: We used photovoice, a methodology where participants take pictures in response to a prompt, and collectively identify the strengths and weaknesses of their community. The final aspect of photovoice is a collective sustainable change, such as policy change. We used thematic analysis of focus group interview transcripts triangulated with results from a pre-survey, photos and their associated hashtags, and written descriptions of photographs as sources of data. Results: Two themes emerged, financial constraints and engineering stress culture, as barriers to student success, while social networks (e.g., student organizations, faculty, and family), finding balance, and positive reassurance were determined to be facilitators to their success. Conclusions: While underrepresented, engineering students continue to face challenges; their collective reflection and discussion initiated by photovoice served as psychosocial support. As institutions grapple with how to support students better, the power of photovoice as a sustainable practice has implications for the teaching, research, and service that can improve student success. Background: Sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCAs) are a group of disorders characterised by an abnormal number of sex chromosomes. Collective prevalence rate of SCAs is estimated to be around 1 in 400–500 live births; sex chromosome trisomies (e.g., XXX, XXY, XYY) are most frequent, while tetra- and pentasomies (e.g., XXXX, XXXXX, XXXY, XXXXY) are rarer, and the most common is 48, XXYY syndrome. The presence of additional X and/or Y chromosomes is believed to cause neurodevelopmental differences, with increased risk for developmental delays, language-based learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, executive dysfunction, and behavioural and psychological disorders. Aim of the Study: Our review has the purpose of analysing the neurocognitive, linguistical and behavioural profile of patients affected by sex chromosomes supernumerary aneuploidies (tetrasomy and pentasomy) to better understand the specific areas of weakness, in order to provide specific rehabilitation therapy. Methods: The literature search was performed by two authors independently. We used MEDLINE, PubMed, and PsycINFO search engines to identify sources of interest, without year or language restrictions. At the end of an accurate selection, 16 articles fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results and Conclusions: International literature has described single aspects of the neuropsychological profile of 48, XXYY and 49, XXXXY patients. In 48, XXYY patients, various degrees of psychosocial/executive functioning issues have been reported and there is an increased frequency of behavioural problems in childhood. Developmental delay and behavioural problems are the most common presenting problems, even if anxiety, depression and oppositional defiant disorder are also reported. They also show generalized difficulties with socialization and communication. Cognitive abilities are lower in measures of verbal IQ than in measures of performance IQ. Visuospatial skills are a relative strength compared to verbal skills. In patients with 49, XXXXY, both intellectual and adaptive functioning skills fall into the disability range, with better non-verbal cognitive performance. Speech and language testing reveals more deficits in expressive language than receptive language and comprehension. Anxiety, thought problems, internalizing and externalizing problems, and deficits in social cognition and communication are reported. Behavioural symptoms lessen from school age to adolescence, with the exception of thought problems and anxiety. Individuals affected by sex chromosome aneuploidies show testosterone deficiency, microorchidism, lack of pubertal progression and infertility. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is usually recommended for these patients: different studies have found that testosterone-based HRT benefit a wide range of areas initiated in these disorders, affecting not only neuromotor, cognitive and behavioural profile but also structural anomalies of the brain (i.e., increase of volume of grey temporal lobe matter). In conclusion, further studies are needed to better understand the neuropsychological profile with a complete evaluation, including neurocognitive and psychosocial aspects and to establish the real impact of HRT on improving the cognitive and behavioural profile of these patients.
