Unused, underutilized, abandoned, and residual urban spaces are increasingly recognized as potential resources for adaptive reuse, ecological improvement, and urban resilience. In this study, such areas are approached through the overarching concept of waste space, a term that captures both their underutilized condition and their transformation potential. While existing research has largely focused on the definition, classification, and emergence of such spaces, their potential for transformation across varying spatial and institutional contexts has received comparatively limited attention. Addressing this gap, this study operationalizes selected social–ecological system (SES) dynamics through spatial analysis in the metropolitan area of İzmir, Türkiye, offering a proxy-based assessment of transformation capacity rather than a direct transformation. Using district-level analysis across ten metropolitan districts, this research combines typological and morphological classification of waste spaces with four spatial indicators: the Density Index, Location Quotient, Shannon Diversity Index, and Typology Dominance Index. The results show that waste spaces are unevenly distributed across İzmir and form distinct district-level configurations shaped by infrastructure expansion, post-industrial transformation, speculative vacancy, and fragmented urban growth. This study concludes that waste spaces cannot be addressed through a uniform regeneration logic. By linking SES dynamics with measurable spatial indicators, the proposed framework offers a context-sensitive, proxy-based basis for indicating transformation capacity of waste spaces and supporting district-specific planning and policy decisions. Deaths caused by or connected to exposure to Brazilian prisons are widely acknowledged as frequent and preventable, yet official data fails to capture their scale, causes, and circumstances. To circumvent what official administrative datasets miss, this article examines an original dataset of 1077 criminal case files from 27 Brazilian state courts involving individuals who died between 2017 and 2021 after having been incarcerated. Drawing on the systematic document review of these cases, we analyze sociodemographic characteristics, health information, causes of death, and judicial responses, distinguishing between deaths occurring in custody (“internal”) and after release (“external”). Our findings reveal pervasive omissions in basic demographic and medical information, extensive use of ill-defined causes of death, and a striking absence of investigation in most cases, including deaths under direct state custody. We identify instances of obfuscation and judicial inaction that, together with the absence of reliable administrative data, are likely to sustain institutional ignorance and normalize preventable deaths. This study advances debates on incarceration and health, state accountability, and proposes the concept of prison lethality: the capacity of carceral spaces to increase people’s exposure to health risks and harms, combined with the epistemic practices that shed light on or obfuscate this capacity. This paper investigates the feasibility of using Large Language Models (LLMs) for the structural analysis of flow-based network data. This analysis is carried out in the presence of a structural difference between the multidimensional numerical space of IoT features and the symbolic space in which LLMs operate. The primary objective was the development of a formal framework that enables the controlled transformation of numerical data into linguistically analyzable semantic representations, without resorting to classification or machine learning mechanisms. We propose the Semantic Flow Encoding (SFE) mechanism, a deterministic method for robust discretization and behavioral abstraction that converts the numerical characteristics of Internet of Things (IoT) flows into structural semantic descriptions using the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity Internet of Things Device Identification and Anomaly Detection (CIC IoT-DIAD) 2024 dataset. Through formal informational measures, it is demonstrated that the existence of an intrinsic structural difference between benign and DDoS traffic in the analyzed dataset. In the validation stage, we evaluated whether these informational differences are reflected at the level of linguistic abstraction through controlled inference experiments in IBM WatsonX. The present paper suggests that LLMs may support semantic auditing of distributional structure when guided by a formal encoding layer. In this manner, a reproducible framework for integrating numerical security data into language-model-based analysis is suggested. Full article

Background: Parental practices that support autonomy, provide structure, and foster warm relationships are associated with greater satisfaction of students’ basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. In minority educational contexts, however, students’ psychological need satisfaction is also shaped by broader sociocultural conditions that may create additional pressures and sources of chronic stress. Within such environments, parental support may function as a protective factor that helps students cope with educational and cultural demands. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore how parental support contributes to the satisfaction of students’ basic psychological needs within a minority educational context where students from the Greek minority attend a bilingual school operating within a Turkish educational framework. Methods: A qualitative design was employed using three focus groups conducted in a minority school located in Gökçeada, Türkiye: one with parents (N = 5), one with lower secondary school students (N = 6), and one with upper secondary school students (N = 6). Interview questions were developed on the basis of Basic Psychological Needs Theory. Data were analyzed thematically by five members of the research team. Results: Findings indicated that parental support influenced students’ need satisfaction through practices related to autonomy (e.g., trust, space for mistakes), competence (e.g., encouragement, comparison), and relatedness (e.g., emotional presence, empathy). However, these practices were not experienced in a uniform way. Rather, their meaning and impact were shaped by contextual conditions associated with minority status, including bilingual educational demands, limited resources, and close-knit community dynamics. Conclusions: The study suggests that in minority school settings, parental support operates not simply as a general interpersonal resource but as a contextually mediated protective process. By showing how sociocultural and institutional conditions shape the enactment and experience of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, the findings extend existing BPNT research beyond majority settings and offer a more context-sensitive understanding of students’ psychological need satisfaction. Liu Mu 劉牧 inaugurated the diagram-based paradigm of Yijing 易經 interpretation in the Song dynasty and restored the Hetu and Luoshu 河圖洛書 to the center of Yi studies 易學. Existing scholarship has approached his system primarily through the lens of xiang-shu 象數 structure or semiotics, frameworks that illuminate how his numerical diagrams function as interpretive tools while leaving unaddressed a more fundamental question: what grounds their authority. This article argues that attending to the religious dimensions of Liu Mu’s system opens a new line of inquiry by revealing how his numerological framework could function as a substantive ground of political and moral order in the intellectual culture of the Renzong 宋仁宗 reign. Liu Mu’s system operates on two interconnected religious levels. First, by anchoring moral and political norms in the objective order of cosmic numerology rather than in human convention, it furnishes a sacred foundation for ethical and political life that transcends arbitrary agreement. Second, by deliberately withholding Heaven’s One (tianyi 天一) from the yarrow-stalk method, it carves out, within an otherwise calculable rational order, an irreducible space for genuine encounter with cosmic mystery. The article further demonstrates that this strategy was shaped by the specific historical and institutional contexts of the early Song. Liu Mu’s enduring contribution lies in constructing a numerological system in which sacred authority and rational order are not opposed but mutually constitutive. Full article

The transformation of religious authority in the digital age is shaped by the interactions between human actors, digital media and algorithmic systems. This study uses digital ethnography to examine how religious authority is constructed and negotiated on digital platforms used by Muslims in Indonesia and globally. This study focuses on seven authoritative figures in the digital Islamic landscape, representing different spectra of authority, from traditional pesantren in Indonesia to transnational apologetics and urban liberalism. The findings reveal patterns of authority delegation in which digital platforms replace human roles in da’wah and Islamic institutions. Religious authority is formed through articulative work that connects the Sunnah, intermediaries (religious scholars), and congregations. Public search data show that digital spaces function as a medium of distribution, where religious authority is shaped by audience responses, message repetition, symbolic affiliation, and the dynamics of debate. This study highlights the role of algorithmic culture and authority representation aesthetics in mediating religious authority in the digital age. Algorithms shape exposure and reach audiences, and representational aesthetics are crucial for disseminating religious content. The study concludes that clerical authority in the digital era results from technocultural mediation, in which the cleric becomes both a figure and representation calculated by machines and validated by the audience’s participation. Micro-public space (MPS) regeneration is typically evaluated at the point of delivery, yet long-term performance depends on whether everyday stewardship can be sustained thereafter. This study reframes neighbourhood social capital as a governance–environment signal reflecting coordination capacity and examines whether residents’ willingness to participate in post-regeneration co-management is primarily appraisal-driven (perceived value, attitude, and perceived behavioural control) or coordination-driven via a residual direct channel consistent with routine governance. A cross-sectional survey of adults residing within walkable catchments of five regenerated MPS sites in Nan’an District, Chongqing, China (N=477), was conducted. An integrated Stimulus–Organism–Response × TPB model was estimated using WLSMV with ordered categorical indicators; indirect effects were assessed via bias-corrected bootstrap confidence intervals. Coordination capacity was strongly associated with perceived value, participation attitude, and perceived behavioural control. In the joint model, only perceived value retained a statistically reliable positive association with stewardship willingness, whereas the incremental contributions of attitude and perceived behavioural control were negligible once the stimulus was included. A residual direct association from coordination capacity to willingness persisted beyond the appraisal block, supporting a direct-dominant interpretation; bootstrap analyses yielded no robust evidence for mediation (BCa 95% CIs crossed zero). These findings suggest that sustaining regenerated micro-spaces requires low-friction governance designs that minimise coordination costs, reinforce soft accountability, and render institutional responsiveness visible to residents. Oilfield worksites and the communities shaped by them are increasingly recognized as gendered spaces in which rotational labor, contractor hierarchies, and production imperatives can reshape norms of accountability and consent. This scoping review synthesizes conceptualizations of oilfield masculinities in scholarship on oil and gas extraction and examines their links to gendered harm, moral strain, and institutional accountability. Following PRISMA-ScR guidance, multidisciplinary databases were searched for English-language publications (2000–March 2024); eighteen sources met the inclusion criteria. A supplementary media scan (2000–2025) was conducted to contextualize cultural narratives surrounding oilfield labor. The synthesis identifies recurring themes, including frontier and breadwinner masculinities, emerging safety-oriented masculinities, gendered workplace exclusion, and the relational impacts of rotational absence and reintegration. Across studies, harms are most consistently described as patterned outcomes of work organization and fragmented governance rather than isolated incidents. Media representations frequently amplify heroism and endurance while minimizing institutional responsibility. Full article

This article examines the assumed dichotomy between the Black church and the juke joint within African American cultural discourse. Often portrayed as moral opposites—one sacred and the other secular—this study argues that such a binary reflects a Eurocentric interpretive framework rather than the actual historical realities of Black communal life. Through cultural and historical analysis, the article asserts that both institutions originated from similar conditions of racial exclusion and served as complementary spaces that nurtured African American identity, resilience, and community connections. Using the film Sinners as a key cultural text, the study explores how contemporary media narratives complicate rigid distinctions between sacred and secular Black spaces, identities, music, and spirituality. The character Sammie illustrates the permeability between these spaces, embodying a cultural logic where spiritual refuge and expressive release coexist. The analysis places this view within the African philosophical concept of Ubuntu, which emphasizes relational identity and the inseparability and oneness of the Black community. Drawing on the scholarship of James H. Cone, the article also shows that spirituals and blues share roots in African diasporic musical traditions. These traditions demonstrate the deep interconnection between religious and secular forms of Black expression. Ultimately, the study concludes that the Black church and the juke joint should be understood not as opposing institutions but as interconnected cultural spaces that collectively sustain African American spiritual, social, and artistic life. Poverty reduction, which is central to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, drives strategies like poverty alleviation relocation. China’s poverty alleviation relocation program represents a systematic government project to achieve national modernization. However, a holistic perspective of examining the process of reconstructing the social space of resettlement areas in poverty alleviation relocation is relatively limited. Drawing on spatial production theory, this study examines the mechanisms of spatial reconstruction in the Mu’en Di Resettlement Area in China from a holistic perspective, focusing on institutional, material, and spiritual spaces. This study primarily employs field-based ethnography, supplemented by a text analysis of policy documents. The findings reveal that the reconstruction of social space in resettlement areas constitutes a dynamic arena of interactions among state planning, market regulation, and migrant adaptation. This study offers insights for the practice of spatial reconstruction for impoverished migrants and emphasizes the importance of empowering migrants as active agents in this process. Full article

Inland waters are critical nodes in the global nitrogen cycle, where microbial processes govern transformations that impact water quality and ecosystem functioning. Inland waters are critical nodes in the global nitrogen cycle, where microbial processes govern transformations that impact water quality and ecosystem functioning. To systematically map the knowledge structure and to identify evolving trends in this field, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using CiteSpace on 2459 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection (1990–2024). The results reveal a significant increase in publications after 2010, peaking at 228 in 2024, with China (1541 articles) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (776 articles) being the leading country and institution, respectively. Keyword co-occurrence and cluster analyses identify a core conceptual framework centered on microbial communities, nitrogen transformation processes (e.g., denitrification, anammox), and aquatic habitats (e.g., lakes, rivers). Based on keyword emergence and temporal trends, the analysis suggests an evolution in research focus across four dimensions: research subjects (from microbial biomass to keystone taxa), core questions (from process rates to predictive manipulation), methodological tools (from culturing to multi-omics), and mechanistic understanding (from linear pathways to complex networks). These observed patterns indicate a progressive refinement of the field. The findings provide a structured overview of the literature and may inform future research directions, but should be interpreted as bibliometric trends rather than definitive conclusions about the state of the science. This article presents a newly excavated Iron Age IIA cult room from Tel Lachish (Sanctuary BBE4) and examines its significance for the study of the organization of religious practice, situating this case within the broader corpus of Iron Age I–IIA local sanctuaries in Judah and the southern Levant. The evidence suggests that early Iron Age ritual practice was organized primarily at the level of extended kin groups, materialized in modest intramural cult rooms embedded within residential neighborhoods. These spaces reflect decentralized forms of religious authority, contrasting with the temple-centered ritual systems of the Bronze Age and with the increasing centralization of cult and religious authority in later phases of the Iron Age. By situating the Lachish evidence within a broader diachronic and regional framework, the study explores changing relationships between household ritual practices, kin-based social organization, and the development of state-level religious institutions in early Judah. Agentic artificial intelligence—systems that reason, plan, and act autonomously within governed workflows—is converging with autonomous electric mobility and urban robotics to reshape how cities govern, move, and manage physical space. We argue that the simultaneous arrival of these three vectors is triggering a transformation comparable in scope to the Industrial Revolution. Cities that deploy across all three domains are becoming the new hubs of innovation: they concentrate talent, accelerate knowledge circulation, enable cross-fertilisation, and generate hybrid proposals that no single vector could produce alone. Just as Manchester, Birmingham, and the Ruhr became the defining centres of industrialisation because steam, textiles, iron, and coal recombined through the proximity of the engineers and entrepreneurs who moved between them, a small number of cities today are pulling ahead because they host the shared talent pool around which agentic governance, autonomous mobility, and urban robotics co-evolve. Conceptually, we extend the mirroring hypothesis in two directions: dynamically, arguing that organisations and urban ecosystems converge toward the configurations new technologies make possible; and ontologically, arguing that agentic AI introduces non-human agents into organisational architectures, requiring hybrid human–AI coordination. We formalise this dynamic as five propositions (P1–P5) of cumulative recursive hybridisation (CRH), operating through four reinforcing feedback loops—data, regulation, infrastructure, and talent. Together, these loops explain why the emerging urban order is path-dependent: early movers accumulate compounding advantages, while latecomers face exponentially rising costs of entry. We demarcate CRH from adjacent frameworks—general-purpose technologies, organisational complementarities, and complex adaptive systems—and test it against counterfactual evidence from failed, stalled, and Global South trajectories (Sidewalk Toronto, the Cruise rollback, Songdo, Bengaluru). We also examine its political-economy, equity, and surveillance limits. Drawing on comparative evidence from public-sector chatbot deployments, autonomous mobility ecosystems in the United States and China, and emerging urban robotics cases, we conclude that what is at stake is not incremental modernisation but the construction of a new urban order. The cities that act as innovation hubs for the agentic AI era will shape global standards, attract global talent, and define the institutional templates that others eventually adopt—much as the industrial cities of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries did. This article examines how ancient Greek tragedy mobilizes landscape to reflect on the limits of civic order and the conditions of human dwelling. Rather than treating mountains, groves, meadows, and borderlands as neutral settings or as simple “nature/culture” oppositions, it argues that tragic landscapes are ethically charged spaces where human norms meet forces that exceed political regulation—divine presence, necessity, vulnerability, and finitude. Written for the polis yet unsettled by what lies beyond it, tragedy repeatedly turns to extra-civic spaces to test civic stability. Three case studies develop the argument. In Hippolytus, woodland and meadow sustain an ideal of purity grounded in withdrawal, an orientation incompatible with social life and culminating in catastrophic isolation. In Bacchae, Pentheus’ project of spatial control collapses as Dionysian forces traverse walls and institutions with ease, exposing the limits of civic rationality. In Oedipus Tyrannus and Oedipus at Colonus, the tragic trajectory moves from Mount Cithaeron, a site of abandonment and opaque necessity, to the sacred grove at Colonus, where prolonged suffering enables a transformed relation to place, law, and divine power. Taken together, these plays suggest that the polis is never fully self-sufficient: civic order endures only through engagement with what it cannot master or expel, and spatial orientation is inseparable from ethical choice. Precast concrete (PC) component production scheduling is essential to the efficiency and reliability of industrialized construction. Although intelligent algorithms have been widely applied in this field, the relationships among research evolution, collaboration patterns, and industrial applicability remain insufficiently understood. To address this issue, this study presents a bibliometric review of 1272 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1990 to 2025. CiteSpace was employed to analyze publication trends, collaboration networks, co-citation structures, keyword co-occurrence, and burst terms. On this basis, a technology adaptability evaluation framework was developed to assess the alignment between algorithmic advances and industrial implementation in terms of dynamic adaptability, verification completeness, and technological generation gap. The results indicate that the field has evolved through four broad stages, from early static optimization to multi-objective coordination, digital twin-enabled dynamic scheduling, and emerging human-centric intelligent autonomous systems. The analysis also shows an increasing convergence of operations research, computer science, and civil engineering. However, a gap remains between academic output and industrial application. Specifically, 32% of the retrieved studies focused on genetic algorithms, whereas only 6% reported full-process industrial validation. In addition, Gen 4.0-related studies showed a technological generation gap of 82.5%, indicating that many frontier technologies have not yet reached broad industrial implementation. The collaboration network further reveals a “high-output, low-synergy” pattern, in which major publishing countries contribute substantially to the literature but exhibit limited cross-institutional integration. This study provides a structured overview of the development of PC component production scheduling research and highlights future directions for digital twin integration, human–robot collaboration, and cross-sector validation platforms.
