A Cross-Cultural Validation of the Italian Version of the Nurse’s Environmental Awareness Tool (NEAT)

The healthcare sector significantly impacts environmental sustainability, with nurses contributing to waste and energy use while also being positioned to lead change through sustainable practices. However, only one validated tool, the Nurses’ Environmental Awareness Tool (NEAT), is currently available to assess their environmental awareness. This study aimed to adapt the NEAT into Italian and evaluate its psychometric properties. The Italian version was developed using a five-phase approach, followed by a cross-sectional validation study to assess its validity and reliability. A sample of 382 nurses and nursing students was included. The Italian NEAT demonstrated optimal content and face validity indices, satisfactory goodness-of-fit indices confirming the original six-subscale structure (Comparative Fit Index 0.85–0.92; Tucker–Lewis Index 0.80–0.90; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual 0.05–0.08; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation 0.06–0.14), and good reliability values (Cronbach’s α 0.77–0.90; omega-ω ≥ 0.80). Construct validity results were likewise satisfactory. The participants’ scores suggested limited knowledge but adequate environmental awareness and ecological behaviors. The Italian version of the NEAT is designed for screening purposes, guiding educational interventions, and supporting research in both clinical and academic contexts. By contributing to the advancement of knowledge on sustainability in healthcare, it promotes environmentally responsible practices within the nursing profession. Full article

Adaptive changes in oxygenation and hemodynamics are evaluated during pediatric laparoscopy. The children underwent laparoscopy (LAP Group, n=20) or open surgery (Open Group, n=10). Regional cerebral (rScO2) and peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate (HR), diastolic (DP) and systolic pressure (SP) were monitored at different intervals: basal (T0); anesthesia induction (T1); CO2PP insufflation (T2); surgery (T3); CO2PP cessation (T4); before extubation (T5). At T1, in both the LAP and Open groups significant changes in rScO2, DP and SP were recorded compared with T0; a decrease in SatO2 was also observed at T5. In the LAP group, at T2, changes in HR related to CO2PP pressure and in DP and SP related to IAP were noted; at T4, a SP change associated with CO2PP desufflation was recorded. Open group, at T3 and T5 showed lower rScO2 values compared with T1. Pneuperitoneum and anesthesia are influent to induce hemodynamics changes during laparoscopy. Full article

A number of labyrinthine disorders with sensorineural hearing loss, vertigo, and tinnitus are known to occur to young people without vascular risk factors, thus being classified as “idiopathic” in the absence of satisfactory explanations; in the last decade, this phenomenon has found a reliable explanation by the adverse effect of a sharp decrease of blood pressure values followed by an abnormal vasomotor regulation. This model may not only be applied to healthy subjects, but even had some confirmation in conditions possibly affecting hemodynamic changes, such as heart failure or treated hypertension. In particular, the results of a recent study on the impact of different antihypertensive therapies, which was analyzed by monitoring the onset or enhancement of tinnitus as a symptom of inner ear sufferance, unequivocally demonstrated an increased prevalence of tinnitus in subjects submitted to more “aggressive” treatments. This seems in agreement with recent observations about the model of fluid homeostasis of the inner ear, and suggests, when possible, to resort to treatments with modulatory effects in order to maintain a steady perfusion to the labyrinth thus protecting its function. Objective. The aim of present study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of multislice computed tomography coronary angiography in patients with left bundle branch block.
Materials and methods. Twenty-four patients who underwent both multislice computed tomography coronary angiography and invasive coronary angiography were enrolled in the study. Findings of these imaging modalities were compared in order to determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of multislice computed tomography angiography in identifying hemodinamically significant stenoses (≥50%). All segments ≥2 mm in diameter were visually assessed independently from their degree of calcification and image quality.
Results. In total, 328 segments were analyzed. The Spearman correlation coefficient between multislice computed tomography and invasive coronary angiography was 0.76 (P<0.0001). On a per-segment basis, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of multislice computed tomography angiography were 75%, 97.7%, 72%, and 98%, respectively; on a per-vessel basis, these values were 77.8%, 92.3%, 70%, and 94.7%, respectively; on a per-patient basis – 81.8%, 84.6%, 81.8%, and 84.6%, respectively.
Conclusions. Multislice computed tomography coronary angiography provides a high diagnostic accuracy in detecting significant coronary artery stenoses in patients with left bundle branch block. Full article
