Aiming to address the complex coupling of transient impulses and steady-state components in vibration signals of scroll compressors in air conditioning systems, this study proposes a physically driven heterogeneous dual-path adaptive weighting network (PDW-Net). The approach constructs a physics-inspired weighting module based on kurtosis and energy criteria, enabling adaptive reconstruction of transient impulses and steady-state vibration components. Feature extraction and decision-level fusion are achieved through a heterogeneous dual-branch network comprising a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-based one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) and a Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT)-based two-dimensional convolutional neural network (2D-CNN). In experimental validation covering four typical fault conditions—condenser failure, refrigerant deficiency, refrigerant overcharge, and main shaft wear—the PDW-Net achieved an average diagnostic accuracy of 97.87% (standard deviation: 2.60%), with 100% accuracy in identifying refrigerant deficiency and normal operating states, demonstrating significant superiority over existing mainstream methods. Ablation studies reveal that the adaptive weighting mechanism contributes most substantially to performance, as its removal results in a 34.24 percentage point drop in accuracy. Replacing the heterogeneous dual-branch structure with a homogeneous counterpart reduces accuracy by 16.18 percentage points, robustly validating the efficacy of the physics-guided and heterogeneous fusion design. The air conditioning compressor is a critical component in automobile heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. However, compressor noise has long been a problem for automobile manufacturers. In recent years, the development and application of automobile air conditioning scroll compressors has increased significantly due to their low mechanical vibration and noise. However, their limitations in terms of airflow pulse and noise cannot be ignored, especially in low speed and high load conditions where the noise generated has a negative impact on driving and passenger experience. Noise and airflow pulses are important considerations that cannot be ignored. This study innovatively modifies the end cap structure of the scroll compressor, using the principles of expansion muffler and insertion tube structure, with the aim of improving the acoustic quality of the scroll compressor. The results show that the novel valve construction can significantly reduce the sound pressure level of the scroll compressor noise to a maximum of 75.20 dBA. The results of this study provide a theoretical basis and practical technical applications for future research and development in the automobile industry. Full article

This paper deals with the simulation of a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) to be developed for driving a scroll compressor of a vehicle air conditioning system. The simulations were needed for the verification of the pre-sizing and for the electromagnetic behavior analysis of the PMSM. These were performed by using the ANSYS Motor-CAD software. All the obtained results emphasized that the pre-sizing of the PMSM was performed correctly, and the designed electrical machine can fulfill all the prescribed requirements. To highlight the superiority of the chosen surface-mounted PMSM topology, a comparative study was performed for four PMSMs having the same stator but different rotor topologies having the same quantity of permanent magnets. The study revealed that the PMSM with permanent magnets on its rotor surface is the best-fitting variant for the foreseen application. By intensively using the ANSYS Motor-CAD software, the authors appreciated that this product is a very useful tool in the hands of the designers not only in evaluating the machine’s computed geometry (by checking its correctness and feasibility), but also in its in-depth electromagnetic analysis and in calculating its parameters of interest. In order to study the matching characteristics of the positive displacement air compressor and the PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cells), air supply subsystem, the basic operating performance parameters of the scroll and single-screw air compressors were analyzed with the focus on the oil-free double-wrap scroll compressor. According to the thermodynamic model and three-dimensional unsteady-state numerical simulation, the variation of the temperature, pressure, and velocity was obtained. Besides, under the rated operating condition of the compressor, the inlet and outlet mass flow rate of the fluid in the working chamber with the orbiting angle of the crank was achieved. Based on the built test platform, the actual working process of scroll and screw compressors was analyzed. This study indicates that the volume flow can be significantly increased by improving the speed of the positive displacement compressor. Based on the experimental measurement, when the height of the scroll tooth of the scroll compressor increases by 5 mm, the volume flow of the prototype SC2 increases by 0.17 m3/min and the exhaust temperature is reduced by 13 °C at the rated speed. The use of air source heat pump systems for space heating and cooling is a convenient retrofitting strategy for reducing building energy costs. This can be combined with the rooftop installation of photovoltaic panels, which can cover, to a significant degree—or even significantly exceed the building’s electricity needs, moving towards the zero energy building concept. Alternatively, increased capacity for rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installation may support the ongoing process of transforming the Greek power system away from the reliance on fossil fuels to potentially become one of the leaders of the energy transition in Europe by 2030. Standard building energy simulation tools allow good assessment of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and PV systems’ interactions in transient operation. Further, their use enables the rational sizing and selection of the type of panels type for the rooftop PV installation to maximize the return on investment. The annual performance of a three-zone residential building in Volos, Greece, with an air-to-water heat pump HVAC system and a rooftop PV installation, are simulated in a TRNSYS environment. The simulation results are employed to assess the expected building energy performance with a high performance, inverter driven heat pump with scroll compressor and high efficiency rooftop PV panels. Further, the objective functions are developed for the optimization of the installed PV panels’ area and tilt angle, based on alternative electricity pricing and subsidies. The methodology presented can be adapted to optimize system design parameters for variable electricity tariffs and improve net metering policies. Full article

Scroll compressors are popularly applied in air-conditioning systems. The conventional fabrication process causes gas and shrinkage porosity in the scroll. In this paper, the electromagnetic stirring (EMS)-based semisolid multicavity squeeze casting (SMSC) process is proposed for effectively manufacturing wrought aluminum alloy scrolls. Insulation temperature, squeeze pressure, and the treatment of the micromorphology and mechanical properties of the scroll were investigated experimentally. It was found that reducing the insulation temperature can decrease the grain size, increase the shape factor, and improve mechanical properties. The minimum grain size was found as 111 ± 3 μm at the insulation temperature of 595 °C. The maximum tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness were observed as 386 ± 8 MPa, 228 ± 5 MPa, and 117 ± 5 HV, respectively, at the squeeze pressure of 100 MPa. The tensile strength and hardness of the scroll could be improved, and the elongation was reduced by the T6 heat treatment. The optimal process parameters are recommended at an insulation temperature in the range of 595–600 °C and a squeeze pressure of 100 MPa. Under the optimal process parameters, scroll casting was completely filled, and there was no obvious shrinkage defect observed inside. Its microstructure is composed of fine and spherical grains. The friction of the orbiting scroll leads to large power consumption and low energy efficiency of the scroll compressor. The common methods to solve this problem are high cost and a complex process. Considering special structures and operating principles to apply the coating technology on the scroll compressor is a new subject. Given the material of the orbiting scroll being aluminum alloy, the unbalanced magnetron sputtering technology for the orbiting scroll of the scroll compressor was chosen and the Cr transition layer was coated to enhance the bonding strength. Moreover, we innovatively performed an experiment to verify the feasibility of unbalanced magnetron sputtering film coating technology for the diamond-like carbon film coated in the scroll compressor. This article elaborates the parameter test methods of the film properties before and after experiments and the experimental system components. The results showed that the diamond-like carbon film has low coefficient and high bonding strength, which renders it a good wear-reducing effect and an excellent self-lubricating property. Due to the thin film layer and high operating temperature, the thickness should be increased to raise the abrasion resistance. The refrigeration system with the scroll compressor coated with the diamond-like carbon film can satisfy the national standard conditions with low Vickers hardness. Its performance was improved at low speed. Therefore, the unbalanced magnetron sputtering with increased Cr bond layer is a feasible and appropriate technology for coating diamond-like carbon film. The electric air conditioning system is in relation to the comfort of the electric vehicle. In this paper, the influence of several parameters on the electric air conditioning system was studied. The model of the air conditioning system was developed based on the thermodynamic and the performance testing results of the components. The model was coded on the Matlab/Simulink platform and simulated. The simulation results show that the ventilation ratio and the indoor blower speed could be used to remove the heat entered the cabin in a short time. Therefore, these two parameters could be used as the major control parameters for the developing thermostat controller. Full article
