From an outside perspective, it is not clear whether the Catholic Church is an active digital entity, or at least, it is not perceived as such. This paper analyses this issue. The methodology involved the monitoring of ecclesiastical Internet activity, SWOT analysis and in-depth interviews (seven) with clergy and technological suppliers of the Church in both Spain and Latin America. Results: Catholic Church digitalisation is spontaneous, as a reflection of society at large, and is heterogeneous due to its decentralised management. There is more inner acceptance of digital mediatisation for proclamation or support in faith (i.e., apps for praying) and less acceptance for the digitalised practice of rites (digital mediation in the celebration of sacraments is an open debate); however, the presence of ICTs in sacred places is increasing (i.e., liturgical books on screen). The evangelisation of the digital continent is an objective of the Church, whereby clergy influencers are the most striking but less solid case. There is almost full digital implementation at the functional level (i.e., digitised accounting and archives). Only charitable action with vulnerable groups remains analogue. Polarisation is also present, as ultra-Catholic groups are over-represented on the Internet. Conclusion: The Catholic Church is integrated in the Information and Digital Age but is also concerned with spiritual impoverishment, as online fragmentation does not feed real humanitarian communities. Parents commonly seek information about infant development and play, yet it is unclear what information parents find when looking in popular sources. Play, Milestone, and Development Searches in Google identified 313 sources for content analysis by trained researchers using a standardized coding scheme. Sources included websites, books, and apps created by professional organizations, commercial entities, individuals, the popular press, and government organizations/agencies. The results showed that for popular sources: (1) author information (i.e., qualifications, credentials, education/experience) is not consistently provided, nor is information about the developmental process, parents’ role in development, or determining an infant’s readiness to play; (2) milestones comprise a majority of the content overall; (3) search terminology impacts the information parents receive; (4) sources from the Milestone and Development Searches emphasized a passive approach of observing developmental milestones rather than suggesting activities to actively facilitate learning and milestone development. These findings highlight the need to discuss parents’ online information-gathering process and findings. They also highlight the need for innovative universal parent-education programs that focus on activities to facilitate early development. This type of education has potential to benefit all families, with particular benefits for families with children who have unidentified or untreated developmental delays. Full article

Educational Mobile Apps for Programming in Python: Review and Analysis

The interest in educational apps is continuously increasing due to their potential to improve the learning environment of students through the personalisation and interaction of the technology. This paper provides an overview of educational mobile apps that teach programming in Python. Existing apps were reviewed, and suggestions for future development within this field are provided within this paper. A search was performed in the Android Google Play Store. The marketplace for educational apps teaching Python was illustrated based on 78 apps. A framework to categorise the apps based on the interactivity of the user interface was applied. Key revenue streams and features were identified (e.g., interactivity, user interface, cost/adds, reviews, downloads, and country). Their effect on download frequency and user rating was evaluated. The offer of multiple dynamic features, a certificate, and a Python IDE might have a positive influence on the number of downloads or user rating. More than one-third of these apps showed static content like a book, while the remainder had dynamic features such as a Python IDE, community support, competitions, interactive tutorials, and/or quizzes. The recommendation for future app developments is proposed based on these findings. Full article

Aims: This study evaluates the effectiveness of an interactive E-book app training program in improving nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and confidence to prevent and care for pressure injury. Design: Randomized experimental study. Methods: Participants were recruited from a teaching hospital in Taiwan. The study was carried out between 20 March 2014 to 1 April 2016. In total, 164 participants were randomly assigned to a pressure injury E-book app training program (n = 86) or a conventional education program (n = 78) with a one-month follow-up. Outcome variables were levels of pressure injury knowledge, attitudes, and confidence of pressure injury care. Results: Participants answered 51.96% of the pressure injury knowledge questions correctly before the intervention and 75.5% after the intervention. The pressure injury attitude score was slightly positive, with moderate confidence in pressure injury care. The knowledge, attitudes, and confidence of pressure injury care of the two groups in the pretest and posttest groups increased significantly. Analysis of covariance indicated that nurses in the pressure injury E-book app group had significantly greater improvement in knowledge, attitudes, and pressure injury care confidence as compared with the control group. Conclusion: The pressure injury E-book app interactive training program was effective in improving nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward pressure injury care and in enhancing their confidence in pressure injury care; therefore, this program has potential for nurses’ in-service education in both Taiwan and worldwide. Impact: E-book apps allow individuals to control the time and place of learning. Direct observation of procedural skills can provide feedback to trainees on techniques to ensure learning effectiveness and pressure injury care quality. Full article
