Abstract
The facile synthesis of 4-acetyl-2-hydroxy-2,5-dimethylfuran-3(2H)-one (4) was achieved by the Mn(OAc)3-mediated aerobic oxidation of 2,4-pentanedione or the direct reaction of Mn(acac)3 in AcOH-TFE at room temperature under a dried air stream. Full article

Abstract
The title compound, (2E)-3-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(2,5-dimethylfuran-3-yl)-prop-2-en-1-one (3) was synthesized in high yield by reaction of 3-acetyl-2,5-dimethylfuran and 4-dimethyl­aminobenzaldehyde in the presence of 30% NaOH solution. The compound was fully characterized from its IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, GC-MS data and elemental analysis. Full article

Abstract
