Access to credit for businesses is an unresolved issue, especially in developing countries and transition economies. There has been a lot of research exploring factors affecting firms’ credit accessibility. Particularly, factors related to borrowers and lenders are always placed under consideration. However, besides those factors, institutional elements could also play an important role in guiding companies’ operations. In countries where the economy lacks transparency and low-level development is limited, informal institutional factors can have potential impacts. In this paper, we focus on exploring the relationship between firm–government links and credit access, thereby offering managerial implications through utilizing cross-sectional data sets at the firm level, with an initial sample of 26,849 observations from 38 countries at different levels of development around the world. The results show a positive correlation of firm–government connection with credit access. Moreover, this relationship may vary depending on the market in which the business primarily operates. Specifically, firms working internationally are less influenced by links with governments and tend to rely more on their own characteristics and conditions. Full article

We have demonstrated the wide-field amplitude surface plasmon resonance (SPR) microscopy technique in the terahertz (THz) range. A Zeonex polymer prism was utilized to excite surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) through attenuated total reflection (ATR) in an Otto configuration. Coherent quasimonochromatic radiation with a wavelength of approximately 197 μm, generated by the Novosibirsk free electron laser, was employed. Our results indicate that the SPR microscopy method is applicable for investigating the planar surfaces of semiconductors at THz frequencies, provided that the SPPs’ cutoff frequency is close to the probing radiation frequency. This condition ensures that the propagation length of the SPPs is comparable to the radiation wavelength. By varying the air gap between the prism and the surface under examination, we acquired images of a polypropylene coating 20 µm thick and a graphene coating 35 nm thick on a flat indium antimonide substrate. The boundary between the coated and uncoated regions can be precisely localized through determination of the kink in the reflection coefficient of the THz radiation beam that illuminates the boundary between the regions if the optimal conditions for the generation of the SPPs in the uncoated region are met. This study investigated four factors affecting internal audit effectiveness in Vietnam, namely, independence of internal audit, the competence of internal auditors, management support for internal audit, and quality of internal audit work. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations were conducted, including a logistics regression model and other analyses, using SPSS software. Through semi-structured in-depth interviews and an online survey, 144 responses were obtained from internal Vietnamese auditors of nonfinancial companies listed on the Vietnamese stock market in 2021. After processing the data, the results revealed two factors (independence of internal auditor and management support for internal audit) with a positive influence on internal audit effectiveness, whereas the competence of internal auditors and quality of internal audit work did not affect internal audit effectiveness. This research aims to investigate the effects of dividend policies on a firms’ financial performance. The paper explores the research gap and then builds a research model using ROA, ROE, and Tobin’s Q as dependent variables, dividend rate and decision of dividend payment as independent variables. The paper collected data and financial statements of 450 firms that are listing on the stock market of Vietnam from 2008 to 2019. The analysis results indicate that the decision of dividend payment has negative impact to Vietnamese firms measured by accounting-based performance but this improve market expectation on firms. In addition, the paper finds that Vietnamese firms are offering low dividend rate which has a positive impact on accounting-based performance but a negative effect on market expectation. This paper proposes some instructive recommendations based on the findings, including a more appropriate model of dividend policies, a lower dividend rate, and clear decision of dividend payment. The role of agricultural sectors in the economic development of a country is undeniable, especially in developing and least-developed ones, ensuring food supply, increasing national income, export earnings and poverty reduction. Vietnam is known as an emerging market, depending directly on agriculture-related activities for their livelihood, in which the issue of rural credit access still remains a confounding problem. The paper focuses on identifying the determinants of credit access in rural areas of Vietnam using Haiphong city as a case study, including formal and informal credit. The paper uses data collected from a survey of 180 rural households in a district of Haiphong city. The probit and linear regression models are applied to investigate the factors that determine household credit accessibility, i.e., the household’s decision to borrow and borrowing amounts. Results of this analysis reveal the different significant determinants of formal and informal credit market access. Group membership and connection are found to have significantly strong impacts on formal credit accessibility while informal credit access is strongly influenced by agriculture income and dependency ratio. The implications of these findings for enhancing formal credit accessibility and decreasing the dependence on informal markets are discussed. Full article
