Obituary—Prof. Marcel Ausloos

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Prof. Marcel Ausloos, Editorial Board Member of Stats, in October 2025.

Prof. Ausloos leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary scholarship, interdisciplinary curiosity, and devoted editorial service to the academic community, including his role as Guest Editor of Stats, and as a long-standing member of its Editorial Board.

He obtained his engineering degree from the University of Liège in 1967, followed by an MSc at Brown University in 1970, and a PhD at Temple University in 1973. After a distinguished career at the University of Liège, where he founded the research groups SUPRAS and GRAPES, he later held a part-time position at the Business School of the University of Leicester.

As an Editorial Board Member of Stats, Prof. Ausloos brought his characteristic rigor and visionary interdisciplinarity to the editorial process. His involvement helped to strengthen the journal’s reputation, advancing research at the intersection of statistics, physics, and the study of complex systems.

The Stats Editorial Office extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students around the world. His absence will be deeply felt within our community, and his memory will be honored by the many whose work he inspired.
