Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Diverse dialogue, dialectic, and even diatribe pervade the humanities, philosophy, and social science literature about the nature, direction, and future of our operating conceptions of community, civic life, and citizenships in this the first fifth of the twenty-first century. Traditional conceptions of community as place- and culture-based are giving way to virtual, digital, and transpatial theories of community. What some political scientists refer to as the civic culture has now metamorphized into contrary poles of global and transnational action, with institutions on the one side, and a struggle to return to local arenas, local forms of policy advocacy, and local culture on the other. Both raise questions about the nature and meaning of citizenship in transitory, often turbulent social, economic, and political environments.

For this Special Issue, we welcome articles regarding the topics mentioned above.
