Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to present this Special Issue of the European Burn Journal, dedicated to nutritional therapy and metabolism in burn patients.

Nutrition is one of the cornerstones of burn care. Patients with major burns remain different from other critically ill patients due to the amplitude of their inflammatory and metabolic alterations. Adequate nutrition is essential for the body to accommodate these metabolic changes and for wound healing, and is also important for patients with minor burns. Unfortunately, many nutritional strategies remain expert-driven and without robust evidence.

In this Special Issue, we would like to present clinically relevant updates for every aspect of clinical nutrition during burn care, from early resuscitation to recovery. The following topics will be considered for publication: quantitative and qualitative aspects of macronutrients and micronutrients intakes, routes and modes of feeding, timing of feeding, nutritional therapy monitoring, anabolic and anticatabolic agents, metabolism abnormalities, effects of nutritional and non-nutritional strategies on long-term outcomes (physical and metabolic status, healing, etc.). The link between nutritional support and the microbiome can also be addressed. Experimental papers, research papers, up-to-date review articles, and commentaries are all welcome.
