Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Water plays a multidimensional role as a crucial resource in the water–energy nexus; however, an unprecedented freshwater crisis has resulted from population growth, diminishing freshwater resources, and increased pollution. Providing water beyond what can be obtained from the hydrologic cycle is the fundamental challenge for the sustainable water–energy nexus, prompting research and developments to discover efficient means for producing freshwater and reusing wastewater sustainably. Recent research developments in membrane separation technologies have established remarkable feats in the water desalination and wastewater treatment industries. Scientific advancements in the past decades have demonstrated that membrane-based technologies can be highly instrumental in offering effective and practical solutions to the water crisis. The unique and distinctive characteristics of the separation membranes and processes make them highly desirable for water desalination and wastewater treatment applications.
This Special Issue, “Membranes Separation Processes for Water Desalination and Wastewater Treatment”, focuses on the innovations in applying advanced membranes and separation processes in water and wastewater treatment. The aim is to provide a platform for researchers to report advances in innovative membrane-based solutions to stimulate alternative, sustainable options. Therefore, this Special Issue welcomes the contribution of original scientific research as well as perspectives or review articles related but not limited to the following topics:
- Polymeric/inorganic/nanocomposite membrane fabrication and characteristics
- Membrane fouling/scaling monitoring and control
- Hybrid and integrated membrane systems
- Membrane cleaning strategies
- Resources recovery from waste streams
- Brine treatment and management

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Clean Technologies is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
