Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The modification of the Einstein–Hilbert Action Integral is the simplest geometric mechanism for the introduction of new degrees of freedom to explain observational data. There exists a family of modified theories of gravity known as f(X)-theories, where the gravitational Lagrangian is a function f of the geometric scalar X. For example, f(R)-theory of gravity is fourth order on the metric functions and can be seen as a scalar field theory, minimally coupled with gravity, under a conformal transformation. In addition, the f(T)-teleparallel theory has been widely used in various gravitational configurations due to the introduction of new geometrodynamical terms in the field equations that can explain the expanding history of our universe. Recently, the f(Q)-symmetric teleparallel theory has drawn considerable attention due to its potential cosmological and astrophysical applications.

In the aforementioned significant variations of the Einstein gravity theory, more theoretical and phenomenological analysis is needed in various aspects of them, such as the search for (hidden) symmetries, determination of the induced observational constraints, comparison with the predictions of standard gravity, and compatibility with cosmological or astrophysical observations.
