Dear Colleagues,
Cold-adapted marine microorganisms represent a unique and largely untapped reservoir of biotechnological potential. Living in extreme polar and deep-sea environments, these microorganisms have evolved remarkable physiological and metabolic adaptations, including the production of cold-active enzymes, cryoprotective compounds, novel secondary metabolites, and stress-response mechanisms that function efficiently at low temperatures. Such traits make them promising candidates for applications across diverse sectors, including sustainable bioprocessing and food technology, pharmaceuticals, bioremediation, and climate-related research.
This Special Issue, Biotechnological Advances in Cold-Adapted Marine Microorganisms, aims to highlight recent progress in the isolation, characterization, and exploitation of psychrophilic and psychrotolerant marine species. We welcome studies that explore innovative cultivation strategies, genomics-driven discovery of functional traits, enzyme engineering, identification of bioactive compounds, and novel industrial or environmental applications. Contributions addressing microbial interactions, ecological roles in polar ecosystems, and responses to climate change are also encouraged, as they provide critical insights into both fundamental microbiology and applied biotechnology.
Reviews, original research, and communications are welcome. By gathering interdisciplinary research in this rapidly growing field, this Special Issue seeks to advance our understanding of cold-adapted marine microbes and to accelerate their translation into sustainable biotechnological solutions.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
