Purification (ISSN 3042-6197) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal offering a platform for theories, emerging technologies, and practical applications of purification across chemistry, biology, chemical and environmental engineering, materials science, pharmaceutical technology, food engineering, and related areas. Thanks to ongoing advances in purification science, novel materials and regulatory frameworks have emerged, as well as fresh technical and societal challenges. By bringing together researchers in sustainable manufacturing, environmental remediation, biotechnological innovation, and other emerging fields, Purification fosters open, high-quality research exchange to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions.

1. Why Choose Purification?

While numerous established journals focus on various aspects of chemical, biotechnological, and environmental processes, separation and purification methods continue to advance. There is a need for a platform for research on evolving technologies, processes, and challenges in treating liquids, vapors, and gases. Authors often encounter delays in publication, inefficient processes, and insufficient support. As a result, they increasingly seek journals that offer faster publication cycles, streamlined editorial management, and enhanced service. Purification aims to be the innovative platform that solves these issues by fostering the quick dissemination of cutting-edge research in separation and purification technologies.
Purification utilizes a scientifically rigorous approach, drawing upon MDPI’s extensive expertise in open access publishing. The journal implements stringent peer-review procedures to ensure high quality while minimizing review times. All research published in Purification is freely available to a global audience, effectively removing access barriers for readers and institutions. Moreover, open access publishing provides significant cost benefits for researchers, who often find themselves dual contributors and consumers of academic research.

2. What Does Purification Publish?

Purification publishes original research on developing and optimizing purification methods across a wide range of areas, including chemical, biotechnological, and environmental processes of homogeneous solutions and heterogeneous mixtures. We are particularly interested in the recovery and recycling of resources, including water, solvents, and raw materials, as well as the capture and separation of CO2 and other greenhouse gases or pollutants. Research on bioseparations for pharmaceutical production, the food industry, industrial biotechnology, and the purification of process feedstocks, waste, wastewaters, and products is also of great interest.
The journal welcomes papers presenting novel approaches in process development, modeling, transport phenomena analysis, and experimentally validated simulations. Submissions touching on innovative materials or devices, such as high-performance sorbents, hybrid membranes, and advanced separation systems, are also welcome. Purification promotes integrating experimental research with computational studies, ensuring that theoretical models are supported by strong experimental evidence to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of results.
Purification values interdisciplinary contributions and welcomes authors to submit research containing insights into innovative methodologies and tackling the challenges of sustainability and resource efficiency. All submissions must include a statement of novelty that highlights how the paper advances knowledge in the field of purification and separation, as well as its significance to a diverse academic and industrial audience.
